I got mine a few weeks ago. Two tubes, both split between 120 and 35mm. I hardly use 35mm any more. I have a bunch in my fridge that i haven't used, so if anyone got 4 rolls of 120 to trade for my 35mm, PM me.

Requested 35mm, and they sent me 4 rolls of 120.

If I shot 120 I wouldn't have a problem, but nonetheless, I don't even own a medium format camera.

Where are you located? I might be able to get a loaner to you if you are near Atlanta.

Look back through the thread and I'm sure you'll find someone who got 35mm when they wanted 120. Maybe you could work out a swap.

Thanks, I had PM Jim earlier today, because I had read his post also, but figured I'd include my findings in the forum anyway.

Why did Kodak even bother asking what format if they were going to send whatever they wanted anyway?

I don't know for sure. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this "promotion" was outsourced to a marketing firm and "fulfilled" by folks who didn't know anything b/w 35mm and 120 nor b/w 100 ISO and 400!*

I shoot both formats so no complaints about my "mixed bag" but it sure wasn't what I was expecting!

*And also didn't have enough sense to tape the ends of the cylinders. I got all of my stuff. But a couple of folks got empty cylinders because the ends popped out!

Its like offering a promotion for a free wheelchair, then giving the winner a bike.

If they were going to have a promotion at all, they should have done it right. This only diminishes my view of Kodak more.

Too much compaining resembles looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth.

And I cannot imagine how someone giving out FREE film in a manner not to your liking would diminish someone's reputation? The mind boggles!!!

It's free film - they don't HAVE to give you anything. I am really surprised that you are denouncing them. It is totally out of place.

I didn't ask for 120, but I got it - and I absolutely appreciate them handing out free stuff. Even if I didn't have a MF camera - I would be happy they gave it to me - after all I might be able to trade it with the folks on this group!

Yes, the film is free... If you're going to do something at all, I feel it should be done correctly. What does it say about a company when they offer any type of promotion, but aren't able to execute it correctly?

It seems if they were unable, for what ever reason, to properly execute the promotion, then they shouldn't have had one at all. I hold this view for not only the free film promo by Kodak, but also for similar rebate programs held by other companies.

Each is entitled to their own view, and I respect your's, but it doesn't mean I have to agree.

I don't recall getting free film from Ilford or Fuji. In my opinion - ANYONE who wants to give out free film in any way is doing a promotion correctly!

Just say "thanks" use/trade or whatever about the film and move on.

Denouncing someone who is doing something nice for people is extremely ungrateful - someone is giving you something they do not have to, for free.

You can buy a large chunk of film and offer it to people for free and "really show Kodak" how it is done if you like.

Until then, I will be very happy with Kodak and I think their campaign was a roaring success!

Or a desperate attempt to say "We're still here"

Also if they send someone 35mm who only has MF gear, or someone 120s who only has 35mm Gear, what good does that do for promoting their new film if they can't use it.

It's a promotion, it's not like they're trying to be generous by saying "we care, have some free film", no it's a marketing tactic to get the film in our hands, try it and if we like it hope we go buy some more, if they screw up on just the promotion, what does that say about possibly the reliability of the company in other areas...

Regardless of their motives, you are getting free film - no strings attached. What's not to like? If you can't use the film, trade it or give it to someone who can (and this is an open invite to send any film you received from the "nasty-bad" Kodak guys to me! :D).

This reminds me of a friend of my families who gave a yearly university scholarship (their own money, BTW) to a promising student. This student had to have attended a state/public high school and be on the speech team, and a couple of other items.

One year a few of the more well-to-do parents in the area sent a nasty letter to them saying they were discriminating against those who went to private schools (with a few insults and bashing, too). The response, of course, was to inform them that they could easily award their own scholarship at any time to anyone for any reason - no one was stopping them.

And my offer to you is the same: If you don't like how Kodak chose to distribute the FREE film, you are welcome to buy up a lot of film and do it the way you see fit, too. I will be the first to sign up. Care to step up?

Really, bashing someone who gives you something for free isn't cricket.

And also, I have not seen any sort of generous (and, yes, it IS generous) outreach/marketing involving free film from Ilford or Fuji.

There is a difference between the example you listed and what Kodak is doing, The friend of yours was not expecting anything back from the student, where as Kodak is expecting revenue back on their advertizing investment to promote the film. When I get the film, I'll be grateful, but just saying if you are going to use a promotion of this sort to advertize the product, the way the promotion is conducted is just as important in selling the product.

Nothing to stop you from buying some for yourself in the format you want to try it out. I really don't think you have a leg to stand on.

Well but of course, but kodak made an offer for you to try it for free, why go buy it? If you never receive it or get the wrong one, does that either turn you off to them, or does that intrigue you to actually go buy some if they have never done anything at all. It's all marketing, doesn't mean we have to be sympathetic to them. And if it was a third party Kodak worked with, maybe they can take the experience in stride and keep notes for future promotions. If they don't hear anything negative they'll just assume everything went off without a hitch.

So if I understand and remember correctly, Kodak sent 35mm to people who checked only the box for 120 (or the inverse).

From the standpoint of evaluating the execution of the promotion, I would be mildly critical. Assuming both 35mm and 120 film is available (and we don't know if it is or not), it does unnecessarily detract from the effectiveness of the promotion by sending trial film to those who cannot try it.

But I don't remember if the signup form implied that film format was a preference or requirement.

From the standpoint of the recipient (or potential recipient - I haven't received mine yet), I say thank you regardless.

I marked that I only shot 120 and all four rolls that I got were 120. Another friend of mine marked that he only shot 120 and that's what he got.

That being said, if 35mm was sent to me, I'd be fine with it. The only thing it cost me was about a minute to fill out a form. Not too much in the grand scheme of things.

Just WHAT were those boys in Kodak thinking? These poor men who got 120 when they should have got 35mm and vice versa could have broken a nail in the minute or two it took to type out their responses to an online survey for FREE film. How RUDE is THAT for a BUSINESS to do a promotion anyway. People! If you're gonna do a promotion where you are giving it away like the ho's you are, at least GET IT RIGHT - use your 'head' more for PETE's sake. I mean the long tube was right, but why tease us like that? GAWD don't they know we're starving film photographer's here and DESERVE whatever we request for FREE to be 100% delieverd to us as we requested. Sheesh. Those Kodak boys need a little PUNISHMENT and DOMINATION I think. Like yeah, I think so.

How often do you get something for nothing nowadays? I filled out and sent the form, and then put it out of my mind - expecting to never hear of it again. I got 2 rolls of 35mm that I probably won't use, but that's not bad when you were expecting to get blown off. The 120 400NC gave me some nice pictures.

With profiteers selling the stuff on ebay, things probably didn't go as Kodak envisioned either.

Why not just try to make the best of their generosity?

I am pretty sure that Kodak got the film to the folks that would generate repeat sales.

I just finished a roll of 400CN, and next goes the 35mm 160NC! Will be fun!

I only hope Kodak will do it again some day - but with the eBay profiteers, and the people moaning about how the stuff they got for free wasn't quite what they were hoping - who knows!
