Cancer is no discriminator of who or when it strikes. It is an insidious disease that zaps a person not only physically but emotionally. Treatment is often times painful and makes you extremely sick. One of our fellow apuggers has recently under gone surgery and will be doing follow up chemo and radiation therapy.

It is our own Jorge. He not only has to deal with all of this, but he has no insurance. The costs of this are not cheap, and add to the emotional overload of these circumstances. We may individually have had unpleasantness with Jorge, but not withstanding he is a person and a fellow apugger. He is in need and is not asking us, but I am. I personally have a long history of butting heads with Jorge. For this disease, his stubborness will go a long way to help him confront what is ahead. He makes me angry, he makes me laugh, he makes me grind my teeth, he holds me in awe of his ability as a photographer. Under all the bluster he is a very good guy and deserves our help.

I have no time in the near future to handle this. Hopefully there will be someone else who can spear head this. I know Sean will do what he can to help (he always comes through for his ape hugger flock).

Jorge is going to be mad at me for jumping the gun asking for help, but he needs a bit of good to help him through this ordeal. I'll gladly take his wrath (since I will be out of commission while he is angry). I know I will miss butting heads with him, I want to see him around for a good long time.

UPDATE - YOU CAN PAYPAL DONATIONS TO JORGE USING HIS PAYPAL EMAIL ACCOUNT ADDRESS OF: paladio06@prodigy.net.mx

UPDATE - Jorge has stated on page 2 of the thread:
Thank you all for your help and prayers. This is something I have been battling for a long time but in this instance the cancer returned in a worse manner. You have no idea how much your help means to me!

Once again thank you! while I really appreciate your help and kindness I would feel better if anybody who wishes to help me purchases one of my prints. I will be the next 20 days in radio and chemotherapy but once I am back I would make the prints and mail them, if you can wait then this would really help.

It is hard to express and write the feelings this kind of response generates, Kevin knows what I mean, there are no words that can really say what this means for someone who needs help.

Thank you,

Jorge.
If you would like to purchase one of Jorge's prints you can do so via the apug-gallery. His gallery is here: Dead Link Removed

I will not be taking commission on these print sales, 100% of the funds will be transferred to Jorge. I own two of Jorge's prints and they are phenominal, the scans in the gallery do not reflect the quality. -Sean

UPDATE - Kevin Saitta http://www.kjsphotography.com
"Donating 15% to Jorge Cancer Fund from the sale of any limited edition print
from my website from now until the end of May."

UPDATE - We now have members selling their own work for Jorge as well. You can see more details here:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Thanks for passing this along. Jorge is a good fellow, and it would be good if we could help him in some way. At the very least, he needs our prayers.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Aggie. While I'm not in a position to try to coordinate things myself, I'll be pleased to help to the extent I can. Good wishes and prayer for our friend are naturally "givens".

However I can help, let me know.

Jorge was the first member of APUG after Sean, I believe.

chemo and radiation therapy is not fun, so I doubt that he will be up to either shooting or printing for sometime to come. Perhaps, there could just be a fund that we can contribute to. Does anyone know if he has PayPal? Sean could put up a notice somewhere on APUG about this.

When I went to Oaxaca last summer, Jorge was the one who got all the chemicals for me.

So please let me know when something is set up. I will happily contribute.

This is disturbing news. So sorry to hear it. I will be glad to help. Jorge is a valuable friend. Will watch for developments. Unfortunately my org skills would turn out to be just another liability.

One possible way to help: Jorge has 17 prints for sale in the Apug Gallery (Dead Link Removed.)

I was just checking them out. I will have to wait until after the APUG conference, but I definitely see a few that I'd love to have.

Depending on his health situation, buying the prints may be the more stressful way to help him out- I don't know what his inventory is of these prints, but that could require significant effort on his part to deliver, when he really needs the rest. It might be better to just put together a fund to send money to him. I'm still interested in buying at least one of his images, but it might be better to wait to do that until he is on the road to recovery, for his sake.

I think the best thing would be to send in donations to Jorge's paypal account. I'll update the thread with his paypal address. Jorge is a good friend and a gifted photographer. We have a large group here so it all adds up even if you only send a few dollars this could help him. Thanks, Sean

I have always enjoyed Jorge's presence and help in matters of photography. I wish Jorge the very best in this time. I know that it must be a difficult thing although I can not begin to imagine.

I will send a donation as soon as Sean verifies his Paypal information.

I have two of Jorge's fine platinum prints and have seen two more in the Traveling Portfolio and highly recommend them.
