I want to use up some of my stash of outdated 120 film in Fridge and my 'Yellowing' PROMICROL so I found a near empty pack of 5 Kodak TMY 400 with 2 left dated 06/1998 ! I loaded into my 2002 Hasselblad 501CM and took a few round town then went to Thorndon Park South for landscape and the Lake. I rated film down to 200ASA as it was 'OLD' and processed in Liquid PROMICROL 1+14 for 18 minutes as per Promicrol times and check on Massive Dev Chart time. -- well, RESULT was OVER- Development and DENSE negs ! Could not believe it for such an 'Old' Film and developer 'going Yellow'
Next roll I will try 250 ASA and 14 minutes only. I scanned a few taken in very dull light. Ones with 'Sunshine' were just too contrasty.

That's interesting. You'd expect a drop in sensitivity for sure and maybe even a bit of elevated fog...

14 minutes is a little over 20% drop in time. I hope it works, I'm surprised too.

My motto in such a case is give it normal exposure and normal development, at least for the first roll and don't just assume that the film has changed that much. You weren't shooting color but B&W which I found to be more "stable".......Regards!

I am going away on Saturday for 2 weeks ( Don't tell the BURGLARS ---- !! ) so will have to experiment on return -- I took 1 frame on the last roll of 06/1998 dated TMY I loaded.

Just musing here.
I wonder if the relatively greater surface area vs. total mass of silver halide ratio found in "T-Grain" (Kodak) and "Core-shell" (Ilford) films vs. more traditional films results in less speed (and contrast?) loss over the long term.

I will not tell the burglars but I always wanted to take the Norwegian Shuttle from JFK to Gatwick. I will bring my 'tools' to Brentwood. - David Lyga
