Greetings fellow camera enthusiasts!

I have recently come into possession of this camera. It comes with a Seikosha SLV shutter. I have gone over it very carefully in preparation for use, and the only thing I can find wrong with the camera, is that occasionally, the shutter sticks. When you can catch it, you can see the leaves opening and then slowly closing. Next fire, it works fine. Then eight or so shots maybe a lot more later, same thing. I want to take it apart, and give it a good cleaning, but I can find absolutely no information whatsoever to getting to the shutter on this camera. I can find all sorts of info to rebuilding it, just nothing on the disassembly of the camera to get to the shutter. Any suggestions please?

Thank you in advance!
Eric

You typically have to remove the top and bottom covers and peel the leatherette on the front near the lens. There would be four screws holding a plate with the lens/shutter/helicoid assembly. Removing the plate gives you easy access to the shutter retaining ring for removal. You might be able to remove the ring from the rear of the camera without removing the plate. But generally there is not enough room for a tool because of the baffles, plus the sync cable will be tight when the shutter comes off. Watch out for the screw holding the advance lever, it usually is left-hand threaded.

Edit. check the leatherette first, maybe you won't have to remove the top and bottom plates

I suspect the easiest way to gain access to the shutter blades on this camera is to remove the rear element of the lens, and then open the aperture fully. Then you can gently rub the shutter leaves with a cotton swab soaked with electronics cleaner.
When you open the back, you'll see that three black metal rings surround the rear glass lens-element. The middle and outer rings have a pair of notches in them for a tool. Unscrew the middle ring, and the rear lens-group will come out, exposing the blades, so you can clean them. BTW, the outer ring secures the shutter.

This video shows how to clean the Aires IIIC shutter, which is a Seikosha MXL shutter, but it might be close enough to get you through the cleaning.

Thank you gentlemen, for the replies. After I am back from vacation, I will make another attempt at this camera.

Have a good weekend.
