Good day,
I have a box of MCC 110 V that is only producing ES values of 1.39 to 1.93; derived from step tablet tests and reflection densitometer readings.
Information of the box:
Emulsion 300-3 2 PD 5-12
G/size MCC 11x14in/25

The vendor who sold me the paper has been notified as well.

Regards,
J P Jackson

Dear Mr. Jackson,

would it be possible to post an image of the label?
The information seems odd and does not match our records thus I cannot look up the batch.
Or did you leave some numbers out?

In general: If the production date (cutting date) is May 2012 this means the coating of the paper can be as early as 2010 (it needs to settle for about 6 months at least and then it can take up to one year for a production to be fully cut). So we are talking paper which is now up to 5years+ old.
This paper will only give full contrast if it was very well stored. Contrast is one of the first parameters to be affected by aging.

Thank you,

Mirko

I cannot look up this number in my system. It must be from before we implemented the production tracking numbers.
The typo and way the numbers are written do not match our current setup.
I have to walk to the file cabinet to persue this quest. Is the lid of the box red? I see a black back and red edges of the label so the lid should be a matt red.
On the other hand informations which I can provide will be limited. I can look up how the contrast curve was 5 years ago and we can compare this to your measurements. They will not be the same because you used a reflection densitometer and the surface gloss varies (we use a translucent one to eliminate this).
This paper is more than 5 years old by now.
Did you see any fog yet? How did you store it?
Do prints from normal contrast negatives look OK (they should)?

Thank you,

Mirko

ADOX box cover

Mirco,

Thanks for looking into this. A picture of the box cover is attached.
There is no apparent fog (B+F = .1). The paper has been stored in my darkroom at 68F and 55% RH since it was received in June of last year.
My negatives are developed for a paper of ES = 1.05 so they will not print properly on this batch of paper. My densitometer is an X-Rite 820 and reads both reflection and transmission densities.
The test data is attached also. This is the second time i have tested this paper with similar results.

Many thanks and best regards,

J P Jackson
