I couldn't find the thread that had alerted me to the promo pricing at Adorama. Armed with a Rob Roy in one hand and forgetting I had a stash of the old Acros in the freezer, I ordered a few rolls at the beginning of a holiday, deferring the shipment for 10 days or so. The film arrived today, short-dated (as expected) with the 35mm being 10/21 and the 120 being 12/21. The thing that spurred this post was the fact that some of the 120 rolls had been opened and an inside flap on the box was removed with the foil being intact. I opened an unaltered box and the flap appears to be blank with no printing. I can't think of a reason for this? Anyway, I thought I'd give a heads-up on my experience if others partake in the promo.

Tearing the boxes may have gotten around Adorama's pricing agreement with Fuji - it made them 'damaged goods' that could be sold at a discount.

In the old days you could buy remaindered books cheap - but the books had the front cover ripped off.

This sounds like the only "sensible" explanation I can think of. If it reduces the price of films then as far as I am concerned then can do anything as long as the film remains intact

I hadn't thought of that. I've had great luck using frozen film well past its date so I'm not worried about its function but had not experienced the box tearing before.

if the front cover was ripped off, the book was reported to the Publisher as Unsold, and Junked. the bookstore was supposed to put the rest of the book into recycle, as they would get credit fro the cover. Publisher would consider selling that as selling stolen goods.

The first batch from the 1 day sale, was sent out in plastic bags and mostly loose. !/2 of my 120 boxes were smashed to some degree and the some of the blank tabs fell off. I am guessing some customers complained and returned rolls. They just resent the rolls, without the loose tabs.

My order pictured above, was loose packed in a plastic envelope (shown under the boxes). With the wrong things packed in a UPS truck on top of it, I imagine many things could happen in route.... That doesn't explain the missing tabs but it's a bit of crap shoot whether this sort of thing arrives intact.

Remaindered books were publisher leftovers, the stripped books with removed covers were actually technically stolen property. Publishers allowed booksellers to return unsold paperbacks by returning just the cover, and by contract they were supposed to rip up the rest of the book, because the cover was returned for full credit.
But some booksellers might sell them in violation of their contracts with the distributers or publishers, or else dumpster divers would collect them to sell at flea markets.

I just assumed the damage happened in shipment, especially since it was sent in a flimsy envelope instead of a box. Ordered 8 rolls of 120 & 35mm, most of the 120 boxes had popped open. I think the 135 boxes were fine except for 1 roll? For the price it didn't bother me one bit & just used some glue dots to attach the tab back together

The have 5 packs for $30 right now, 120 and 35mm. I just got one of 120 today. It had a strange 2/3rds of the plastic wrapping inside it. Would that be an open 5 pack sold at discount? None of the boxes were opened but three were starting to come open. I got 3 rolls of 35mm and the boxes were all a little dented. Maybe the hold back the damaged boxes for last and sell at a discount once the film is short dated. The only real problem is I went looking for 400 speed film but at the price ended up with 5 rolls of Acros II instead.

I had ordered 2 35mm rolls (expiring 10/21) and 2 120 rolls (expiring 12/21). One of the 35mm rolls came in a torn-open box, the other three rolls were sealed. So I’m pretty satisfied.

Looks like this deal is up again. Note the film seems to be either near expiry date or else just expired. So throw it in your freezer as soon as you get it.

Remaindered books were typically marked with felt pen across page block. Other markings were sometimes used , but ripping front page off was not one of them.

I thought that the front cover was ripped off and returned to the publisher as “evidence” that the book was no longer saleable. I’ve bought numerous books at used book stores without a front cover and that was the story always given to me for why the cover was missing.

As others stated book without front cover was no longer for sale. Selling it was a fraud.

Absolutely, but it still happened. Quite a lot in my experience.
I don't doubt it did. I used to frequent book stores selling overstocks etc. all over the States, wherever I had a chance to visit one. I have never come across one with removed front cover, but again, not questioning some places managed to do that, possibly not even knowing it was not to be sold.

Is Acros II not selling well? I know of a local shop here in BC that also has this date (also short dated) film on sale. It makes me think people aren't buying this film much. Anyone know? It doesn't bode well for Fuji re-releasing this film and then it doesn't sell. It could be cancelled again if no one is buying it.

If Fuji stops drinking and having parties they might reconsider pricing and it would start selling quick. For the time being I am not supporting primadonnas.

Just bought another 20 rolls of 35mm, 6 dollars a roll seems pretty darn good these days plus I like the film. It been worthwhile to be on Adorama's email list as they sent me alerts to these sales.
