Both Fuji and Kodak think of themselves too much. But so long as people keep paying and don’t hold back they will think of themselves all the same.

I prefer to support those who actually mean something to supporting film production and maintaining prices at levels more inviting to users, especially new and young etc. Ilford, ADOX, Foma, Orwo. One can only hope this list will grow and hopefully lead to fundamental changes at Kodak and Fuji.

I don't doubt it did. I used to frequent book stores selling overstocks etc. all over the States, wherever I had a chance to visit one. I have never come across one with removed front cover, but again, not questioning some places managed to do that, possibly not even knowing it was not to be sold.

I remember seeing stripped books for sale in the 70s. A discount retailer (like K-mart, or lower end than K-Mart) that my family went to had a table of bargain stripped coverless mass-market paperbacks (like last year's not quite best sellers) near the cash registers. Not a regular bookstore.

I bought some of the Fuji Acros film, but only 35mm, and the boxes were just shipped (for $0) in a bag. No problems. I expect the damaged boxes are just an artifact of on-the-cheap packing and shipping. Poor Acros can't do anything right, first it's discontinued, then it's too expensive, then its boxes aren't pristine.

Singling out a member on an unrelated discussion is NOT recommendation. Every non-subscriber has a note plastered on every page to consider paid options. Enough for that. And funny enough I have been looking into subscription just the other day, delayed it for a bit and now with your comment I am not sure this is a good idea.

Step back a bit, read the post you made referring to supporting entities, read the post in response which said you should support this site, and then consider whether or not you may be making more of this then it warrants.
No one is required to become a paid subscriber, unless they wish to make use of the extra benefits that paid subscription offers.
However, APUG/Photrio has a history of members encouraging others to support the site by becoming paid subscribers.
It is fine to say to someone that they should support us by becoming a paid subscriber, because we are worth supporting.
It would not be looked at favourably if someone were to call someone out for not being a subscriber.

I got some of this. It arrived today.

As in the pic above the 120 as 12 2021. Loose boxes, some a little beat up. Nothing wrong with it and the boxes all look new and sealed.

I got 135 as well, all of the boxes with visible date are out of date. It was a 10 pack, which is in good-condition boxes all shrinkwrapped together. The ones I can read a date on expire 10-2021. I threw it all in the freezer except for a couple rolls of 120 I hope to start working though this weekend.

That does raise a question for me. I knew about the sale from here, and expected it to be short dated, but that sale of 135 in 5 packs for $29 is still going on and the ad doesn't say anywhere that the film is out of date. That seems less than ethical. Or am I wrong?

Not complaining about the gamble of out of date film to price, it's half the normal $12 a roll and I have a reason to use several rolls immediately, so if the ad said "Expired October 2021" I'd have gone for it anyway. But out of date film should be advertised as out of date film, no? Or is sale film being out of date common?

Apologies if this is too far off topic.

It's kind of sketchy in my opinion, but then again, with the price/availabliity of film these days, I'm not going to raise a stink.

Just ordered 10 rolls of 35mm myself. I should be set with the addition of the Foma 120 classic I ordered from Freestyle.

Get this cheap film while you can.

Agreed.

That's what I was doing. I have bunch of film, but I'm starting home developing. The only way to get good at things is to practice, the only way to practice and experiment with developing is to shoot more film. Half price Acros is a good excuse to go through some rolls of B&W quickly. Not much more than Arista EDU, or bulk rolling FP4 (without the work).

Besdies, the Delta and T-Max I have right now is all super fresh. I can shoot the cheap stuff now, when I'm likely to make mistakes and before i get too fond of the more expensive stock.

Is Acros II not selling well? I know of a local shop here in BC that also has this date (also short dated) film on sale. It makes me think people aren't buying this film much. Anyone know? It doesn't bode well for Fuji re-releasing this film and then it doesn't sell. It could be cancelled again if no one is buying it.
I bought a couple of rolls a few months ago, mainly in case I decide to do some low light photography. Basically though, Across II is a little rich for my blood. Maybe other people feel the same way, and the cost is one of the reasons it's not selling well, assuming it actually is not selling well.

I wouldn't consider Acros II as "not fresh". A month expired doesn't matter and personally I prefer Acros over Delta.

Exactly, a month expired really does not matter with an ISO 100/21° film. Put them in a fridge, and you can use them even 4-6 years later without problems. The established big film manufacturers are quite cautious / conservative with the dates: That are not really "expiry" dates like with some food, but more "guarentee" dates: If used before that date the manufacturer guarantees perfect performance.

Best regards,
Henning

Just ordered ten 120 rolls to check it out. Price point on this is the same (for me) as TMX and FP4, so it will have to be outstanding compared to those for me to really order this again at the normal price.

Order came in today. Brick of 10. Expiration same as others here.

As of midday Dec. 10, Adorama still lists a 5-pack of Acros II for $25. That's a good price, folks.

I ordered two (more) 5-packs last week, and they arrived today as a sealed brick of 10. My last order came as loose boxes. Both orders look like they are from the same batch, and have the same 10/2021 expiration date. I'm kind of surprised at the pricing, but there aren't that many deals on film these days, so I'm taking advantage while it lasts. $5/roll for just out of date film is about as cheap as it gets these days. It does kind of make you wonder about the market and/or demand for this film, and whether Fujifilm will keep producing it even though they just re-released it a few years ago.

Ended up getting 60 rolls using the 5 packs discount. It is back ordered now. Hopefully a sale like this comes again. Now to decide what developer to use.

Maybe Adorama was just trying to get rid of their short-dated, now expired stock at clearance prices. Seems they were successful, since the film is back to regular price and/or on backorder. Glad I got another order in before @ColdEye and @darr made off like bandits and cleared them out! :D

Hahaha the film bandits. No when will tri X go on sale. Might have to bulk load again.

It seems Adorama miscalculated the pent-up desire for Acros and bought way too much when the new film was released. I doubt they will make the same mistake again.

I don't know how Fuji distribution works in the US, but it's also possible (likely, IMO) that the importer / distributor had a stock of unsold film that was relatively short date, Adorama bought the truckload for a large discount, and then sold it on to us.

You're probably right. When I did advertising for a local camera shop, they rarely discounted anything that didn't reflect a deal they were getting from the distributor or manufacturer.
