This sounds like the only "sensible" explanation I can think of. If it reduces the price of films then as far as I am concerned then can do anything as long as the film remains intactTearing the boxes may have gotten around Adorama's pricing agreement with Fuji - it made them 'damaged goods' that could be sold at a discount.
In the old days you could buy remaindered books cheap - but the books had the front cover ripped off.

This thread is about Adorama. It has been many, many decades since B&H became a high-integrity retailer. Let's not conflate Adorama with today's B&H or B&H with how "the NY stores" acted way back when....what is going on with the 2 NY stores?...
Remaindered books were typically marked with felt pen across page block. Other markings were sometimes used , but ripping front page off was not one of them.Tearing the boxes may have gotten around Adorama's pricing agreement with Fuji - it made them 'damaged goods' that could be sold at a discount.

As others stated book without front cover was no longer for sale. Selling it was a fraud.I thought that the front cover was ripped off and returned to the publisher as “evidence” that the book was no longer saleable. I’ve bought numerous books at used book stores without a front cover and that was the story always given to me for why the cover was missing.

You are quite right - "remaindered" wasn't the right word for a book sold w/o the cover - I'm not sure what is.

I don't doubt it did. I used to frequent book stores selling overstocks etc. all over the States, wherever I had a chance to visit one. I have never come across one with removed front cover, but again, not questioning some places managed to do that, possibly not even knowing it was not to be sold.Absolutely, but it still happened. Quite a lot in my experience.
If Fuji stops drinking and having parties they might reconsider pricing and it would start selling quick. For the time being I am not supporting primadonnas. Is Acros II not selling well? I know of a local shop here in BC that also has this date (also short dated) film on sale. It makes me think people aren't buying this film much. Anyone know? It doesn't bode well for Fuji re-releasing this film and then it doesn't sell. It could be cancelled again if no one is buying it.
