QG;

It goes up with negative size, and can be seen in paper prints. Many people use a standing water rinse that "seasons" with use and also causes problems. I have PMs and Emails about all of this re.. "whats wrong with my workflow?"

Hey guys, should I use water or acetic acid to stop a bullet in mid-flight?

I can imagine.
Can't imagine why people would think that "water" means "water full of stuff that isn't water and shouldn't be in there". But have no problem believing that they do.

I found this mucho verboso chain very informative. I only used an acid stop bath when I started bw work just over 60 years ago, and I think I will continue to do so for film. But pe's cogent arguments for using it with both paper and plasticized print material has convinced me to buy some for prints. As far as film goes, I use water BECAUSE it does not stop developement immediatly. It, in my somewhat limited experience, allows the shadows to come up a little bit more while in the highlights exhausted developer faster diluted.

I think if you read the thread again you'll find the consensus through out is that a stop bath should be used with papers, despite Kodak and Fuji leaving the step out with machine processing of RC papers :D

Sorry since I did not make myself clear. I've used water stopbaths for mucho years. I am going to start using an acid stop bath for papers, however.
