Always look forward to Adox new products. Adox uses such nice packaging. I am using up some 6 (7) bath E6 chemistry. Looking forward to going back to the Adox (Tetenal style) 3 (4) bath chemistry.

@ADOX Fotoimpex is the new stock of Color Mission 200 the same film as before.

Puzzled, since the official word was that CM200 was all gone… Is this CM200 mkII and we are encourage to find out what it is / how we like it? Is it the same stuff as Orwo 200 / OptiColour 200?

Thanks!

I would hope not, the language around this implies it's the CM200 we know and love.
Adox isn't the company I'd expect to rebrand NC200 while implying it's CM200, so hopefully they can chime in and at least partially explain how this film became Lazarus ;-)

Yeah, there is hope that this is still the original CM200 since the max. 3 rolls per order rule is still in place.

Maybe NC200 is something that has "existed" for years in the sense that Inoviscoat had the recipe on paper but not the ability to bring it to market. Maybe CM200 was an attempt to bring it to market and NC200 a new attempt to convert whatever Inoviscoat has sitting on the shelf into a product. So the two films might be quite closely related.

Adox CM200 appeared suddenly out of nowhere as a pretty good color negative film. Now imagine how much or how little R&D you think Inoviscoat would be capable of doing in 2021 or 2020 prior to launch. That amount of R&D must be the distance between whatever Inoviscoat had sitting on a shelf and CM200.

I scaned the first roll of CM200 yesterday after a couple of years of buying some (not a 35 mm guy). Very saturated reds and very grainy compared to other similar films would be my summary. I am not really impressed or pleased honestly, Agfa CN were grainy but I rememeber the color pallette saturated but better balanced

I have to widthaw my last comment. The red saturation and very grainy look of CM200 was a scaning problem, nothing to do with the film. After correcting it, the look is still a bit grainy but color balanced is good and on the usual warm side for this type of films. Overall apperance is pleasant even grain is a bit intrusive sometimes.

Yes, it's grainy for a ISO 200 film if you compare it to Kodak and Fuji colour negative films. I'd say even Portra 800 has finer grain. It's not a deal breaker for me though.

It prints suprisingly well...

and scans as good as any other "normal" film:

Got my two rolls of the new batch today.
Seems to have gotten a packaging update, I recall the old batch shipping just in the canister (which had a label attached).

I've been buying CM200 quite regularly (when available, of course) and it's been a while now since they've started putting it in a black canister with orange cap and a box. Just like your picture shows. At the very start it only came in a canister with a label.

Thank you for posting your photo. This is a long shot, but does anyone pick up any hints from the emulsion color if this may or may not be what others are packaging as the early version of ORWO NC200?

I still have a roll of original Color Mission in the freezer, I'll dig it out tomorrow and see if it's any different.
FWIW, the film color looks like "normal" C41 film to me, which I recall was the case for CM200 from the original batch as well.

I have rolls of the original Color Mission here in the freezer. The emulsion looks like the one in your photo, like a ‘normal’ emulsion. I don’t know the color of ORWO CN200. If it’s greenish like the other ORWO films, then I guess we can rule out the new Color Mission being the same as ORWO.

Orwo NC200 has a yellowish base and purple backing. This looks like a standard C-41 film.

Yeah, I was already looking around for examples of Optik's NC200 release, in these stills from an Instagram video the purple hue can be seen:

So it's not that, and just to check, I also looked up what Lomo 92 looks like.
From these stills from a YT video, it seems to be vastly different too, the base is much darker and the emulsion is more towards the green side of things it seems:

So far it seems like it's probably the CM200 we know and love.
Which leads me to ask, @ADOX Fotoimpex, where did this batch come from, did y'all find some left over stock or is there something more brewing? 👀

I wasnt aware that Color Mission had a new batch made up. Im late coming back to this thread. I ran out of this film over a year ago. Is there any talk to produce this in 120? Also it seems the new batch is already sold out, assuming the link on the site is for the new stuff. Who is coating this new film- Orwo? Adox? Anyway down the road I'll try and get another 3 rolls for next year, if all goes well.

Most probably not a new batch (as in "newly coated master roll"), but cut from the same stuff that all previous rolls of CM200 came from.

Although, Adox said this stuff was all gone and that they can't cut any material (like Helios aka Color Mission II that is sitting in their cold storage) at the moment, so we are obviously not kept in the loop...

Im not sure what to believe at this point. Adox says its all sold, yet you're saying its still from the original roll batch. Id like to ask Adox how they are coming along for making Color Mission 2.0 on a new coater? Maybe Orwo can help out there?

It's indeed a bit unclear, their quote seems to strongly imply they had zilch:

You probably do something less complex than us. If we had personel overlap for every single step in the production we needed about 3-4 times more people which ofcourse we cannot afford as we are not even breaking even (fully) with current staff. So we prioritise. What people might habe gotten wrong here is that the COLOR MISION I is not affected by this. This stock is sold.

Adox hasn't signed in on their Photrio account since the 10th of June, though, so they haven't seen the most recent discussion I suppose.
Which is why I hope they soon will, and maybe can shed at least a little light as to whether this was actually still some old stock they might have misplaced and found again recently, or if they were actually able to get more fresh stock coated (I'm still leaning towards the former, but who knows!).
