I am blessed to live in the state of Iowa, and one of our great annual traditions is the state fair. They have a photo contest as well as more traditional, ag-oriented contests, and I entered three photos this year. I received word yesterday that one of my photos was chosen for exhibition. Kewl! But they didn't say WHICH one and I won't know until August 7th.

So...

Please go ahead and give your *guess* as to which of the three was picked. Please feel free to say why too!

My own "guess" is that it was this one, the only analog entry:

Shot with a Minolta X-700 this Winter.

The other two are nice too, and my apology for showing digi-work. If this isn't acceptable here then please, moderators, feel free to move this to the soapbox?

Entry #2

Entry #3

So go ahead, guess! Or you can also say they all look like cr@p.

Yep, closed

Got to be #1. The dog's image in midair is just a great catch. Is the contest closed yet?

Aye, the entry deadline was July first I believe. They won't announce anything more until August 7th.

It has to be the dog. It's the action, the spread of the paws, the bodyline, the slightly rakish right eye, the tongue and all of it reminiscent of White Fang.

He or she is a dog and a half in a shot and a half. I hope you use the same expression in the U.S. In case you don't, it's a compliment this side of the Atlantic.

All three shots are nice, but I agree with the rest and think #1 will be the chosen one. My 2nd favorite is #3.

Congrats on getting chosen for exhibit. There is a TON of competition, and it's more and more each year.

I'll be there 8/7 for the opening as well. Would be nice to meet face to face.

Definitely the dog. The others, while very good, are a bit formula driven, if you know what I mean. Number 1 is a gas!

Sorry guys the dog shot is great in my book But since we do not know the theme for the fotos , I am going with Number 2

A bit of history - the dog picture is a rescue picture. I had taken a roll of film to CVS for processing (I now only use professional labs) and this whole roll was "ruined" by cold/freezing/moisture they claimed. I had a couple nice shots on the roll so I asked Kodak what had happened. The prints had blotches of ghastly color on them:

Turns out it was a simple lack of adequate bleaching. So I took the negatives in to our local Pro lab and they did the fix. I've had that same lab do all my work ever since.

That dog shot is a surefire winner !!

I love the photo and the dog looks like he must be your buddy, 'cause he's coming at you with love in his eyes

Has to be the dog. What perfect timing!

The dog.

The dog, IMHO.
Great action shot!

I' ll certainly put in my vote for the poochie's shot--#1;
for #2 -- sorta ordinary;
#3 -- has a "painterly" quality to it! And if my roommate were to see it, she'd ask if you would like a pastel of it!!!

I really like #1 & #3.
All the best on that final decision,:D :D

It's the dog, or I'll eat a Milkbone biscuit. (I actually did once...when I was a kid...with a can of 7-Up. Must be what wallboard tastes like though I'll never know for sure.)

I was about to sign up but then I realised you wanted "Prognosticators" when I thought you wrote "Procrastinators" - I'm a world-class one of them!

Ah well, since I'm already here making dumb jokes:- the dog gets my vote. Lots of movement and a great "decisive moment" shot. The other two could do with graduated filters (or possibly a polariser, depending on the position of the sun) to avoid the blown-out sky, though I do like the sense of depth in 2 and the colours in 3.

Nice. Bob.

So, you're happy to eat dog food, but you won't try a bit of drywall in the interests of scientific enquiry? :D

Last chance to vote! I'll find out which one was chosen sometime tomorrow or Wednesday. The dog is so far the runaway choice...

The dog is fantastic! An amazing shot!

However, we don't know the theme for the competition (unless I've missed it in skimming the thread). If it's a straight photographic exhibition then the dog wins by a country mile. If they're looking for something to show off the area, I'd probably go with #2.

(And soon we will find out why I'm not a photo judge! :D )

The fair has several categories. The dog was entered in "Animals", the lighthouse picture in "Places outside Iowa" and the lake was entered in "Lanscapes / Scenic" (I think).
