Hey gang,

I picked up a Mamiya RB67 and am trying to scan my 6x7 negatives on my Epson V500 flat bed scanner. I have never had any problems scanning 6x6 negatives but what I am finding is that with the 6x7 format there is quite a bit of clipping. I am using Epson Scan software.

Quick rundown of what I am doing:

Negatives are cut into 3's. I put one strip in the negative tray and position it so ONE image is showing completely. I hit preview and it shows me one negative about 66x59 mm and then another that is 50x50mm. I don't know why I can't get the one negative to be a full 60x70 (or at least close I know nothing is exact).

I have tried setting the configuration to accept 6x7 and 6x8's (thought it might format my negative to the right size), but seem to have no luck.

Do any of you guys have this problem? Suggestions for me? I am so excited about my new camera but kinda disappointed I cannot scan the whole negative. :pouty:

Thanks in advance,
~Mike

I don't use that scanner, but on the 4870 you need to use the advanced mode. From there a preview should show the whole platten and not just the film frames. You then need to manually select the regions to scan. I may have missed a step, but that should get you close.

+1 for this ...

you can then use the tool to select each region you wish to scan to have multiple scans.

I suggest also you use this method: in my view ...: quick negative scan tutorial

there are some other links at the bottom of that for how to do the bulk scanning (in my view ...: bulk scanning with Epson flatbed) which will help you with the above advice

Hey thanks guys. I have been using "professional" mode for some time now. Gives me more control of the image scan. I think I figured out how to do it, it's a cross between what you guys said and dumb luck. I went into the configuration settings and changed the film size to 6x9 and this scans the entire MF negative tray as a single image. Then I use the selection tool to grab just the one ENTIRE negative I want.

With 6x6 negatives it automatically finds the 2 images for me so I thought it would dO the same with 6x7

Hi

glad you got it sorted

but if you do that you'll have difficulty applying the same corrections to each neg. The (software) machine treats them as independent. You will have better luck with consistent application of corrections if you use the methods outlined above (should that be important to you).

good luck
