I picked up a nice old 6.5x9 today after a few years hiatus from film photography and apug. Wondering if there are still suppliers of 6.5x9 around? Last I was involved efke was making it but freestyle doesn't have such a thing anymore.

Wow, damn, just googled and I guess while I was otherwise distracted efke went out of business due to mechanical failure. Sucks, they were pretty good at supplying niche films.

Guess I can always adapt the holders to use cut strips of 120 rollfilm at 6x9, if I can keep it flat enough..

Every spring Ilford takes orders, through a number of stores, for custom size sheet film.

Nice, glad to see some things haven't disappeared!

I hope that Ilford continues the ULF program under the new ownership

I settled on the easy solution of a roll film adapter for a little ICA 6.5x9 plate camera. Cheaper and easier in the end than cutting film down, but I did mod a holder to use the occasional cheap box of old 2.25"x3.25" sheet film I find.

I've never even heard of 6.5x9 unless that's a metric version of 2.25x3.25? I'd think that would be 6x9 though. That IS available, and readily:

It was a standard plate size, many cameras will take a 6x9 Rollex or Rada 120 back, there were also 620 backs.

I have a 3x4 speed, and a 9x12 folder.. film is no longer available for them, so I cut my own.

Rather than go into the process.. search the web.. here are two quick ones I came up with..

9x12 is readily available it's the standard Continental European format, all manufacturers sell it. Quarter plate can still be bought from a few suppliers.

But still european manufacturer Ilford do not have it as stock item.

Ilford has it as a special order item (once a year, available to European distributors).
Foma does make 6.5x9 sheet film and is available from European distributors.

Nope, I definitely do mean 6.5x9. The camera is a Voigtlander Avus 6.5x9 format.

I just noticed one of the film holders has been modified to take 6cm wide strips (perhaps would fit cut down 120 film, or 6x9 sheets). So that's a nice bonus.

The 6x9 rollfilm backs for this format cost more than the camera, the rare times they come up.

No the roll film backs are remarkably cheap and common, I've never paid more than £10/$14 and usually a bit less.

On ebay? I'll have to keep an eye out, would love to find one (the couple times I've seen them sellers have been asking upwards of $150).

ilford do 6.5in x 8.5in. Would that work for you. Ot is it cm you are looking for.

You've got to look for the old style pre--WWII Rollex/Rada backs and make sure you get the right edge fit. Some come with adapters that slip inside to convert from 6x9 to 6x6. This may not be the right fit but is the type of back I'm talking about.

6.5 x 9 cm sheet film was quite common indeed about 50 to 60 years ago. I have those holders for my makinas II and III, my mamiyas universal/press and even for the mamiya C series. the mamiya holders have additional frames, that were for 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inch film cut into 4. these frames would hold cut pieces of 120 film for a test, but cutting roll film is a PITA.

I have several roll film holders for the makinas, bought quite recently, not quite as cheap as Ian's, but I did not pay 50$. just be patient, they show up.

Just for clarity 6.5 x 9cm is different from 2.25" x 3.25" sheet film. As others have pointed out, in Europe you can still get FOMA & Adox in 6.5 x 9 cm sheet film.

In 1982 I was living south of Munich and had a Galvin 2.25 x 3.25 view camera. I went to Munich to get some sheet film and came home with a box of Agfa 6.5 x 9 cm film. After a frustrating 20 mintues in the darkroom trying to load my 2x3 SFH I realized my error. No way will 6.5 x 9 cm sheet film fit into a 2x3 holder. I had to order 2.2.5 x 3.25 film from the USA.

Hasselblad used to sell a trimming scissors to cut 6.5 x 9 cm into a square for their sheet film holders for the Hasselblad 500 series cameras.
