Are you saying the two have to be a matched pair? How would you know if that particular lens/goggles are matched?

I was reading about it somewhere else, not at CQ site. I'm not sure if it was in English, either. It sits in my memory as the warning to not buy lens and goggles separately.

The lens you are looking at despite lack of informative pictures seems to be good example at the right price. On of these USA only deals on e-bay...

You need two 5cm lenses?

I have four at this moment, they are very different from each other. I kept two 35mm and they were very different on darkroom prints as well.
But if you shot them all at f11-f16 it doesn't make sense to have more than one of each focal length.

Cheers, Ko.

50 f2 DR Summicron with "Eyes"

The 50/2 DR lens is my all-time favorite 50 for Leica and maybe my all time favorite lens. The sharpness is terrific but the more moderate contrast and seemingly beautiful "micro-contrast" is superlative for B&W work, at least mine. I got mine with goggles for only $350 due to an aesthetic flaw that has no affect on its use or performance. The one you're looking at is a gorgeous example but personally I think you can find this lens quite a bit cheaper with patience.

As for "better" than the 50/2 Planar? Not better but different. I use a lot of Zeiss glass and it's terrific, more contrast and punch typically. Definitely more "3-D" look. I have the M-mount 35/2 Biogon and love it as well but the character is quite different than the 50/2 Summicron-DR. If more contrast and pop, especially for color work, is a priority then go with or stick with the Planar.
A couple of 50/2 Summicron-DR examples of mine:

But of course. I have three Nikon FTN's and two Nikon D200's. As the old saying goes, double your pleasure, double your fun, you get two for the price of one(sometimes).

Popup box says Invalid attachment on those two links?

Yes I understand lenses are like paintbrushes even in mono.
But a 3.5 cm might be better buy.

I figured I'd best jump on it before someone else did. I've a habit of procrastinating and agonizing over something like that for too long and when I decide on it, it's gone. Can I get a witness?
