My recent purchase of a 3D printer makes me think a sticky for posting analog projects, photos, settings and observations is in order for Photrio, even if we make only lens caps or rugged polymer camera cases.

I don’t think I’ll post a project before Christmas, but some 120 and 35mm multi roll canisters, lens caps, protective plastic cases for brass Luzid step-up rings, lens hoods, etc, but I sure would like to see others projects, plans, working methods.

How do you handle bayonet mounts and screw mounts for lens hood, for example.

What have you made?

The 3D printer I have bought is the Bambu lab A1 four strand unit which I will pair with an older Lenovo laptop, running Windows 10.

I'll raise this to the attention of the other moderators.

For now, I propose we go with the approach we've always used so far: if a thread warrants attention by attracting relevant content, a good deal of participants and it's of a generic, long-term nature, we consider making it a sticky. So feel free to add your projects to this thread.

Concerning 3D printed parts specifically, this might indeed work as a sticky thread as long as the scope of the thread is adding new projects to the list without much need for discussion. More complex project will warrant discussion, in which case they are better off with threads of their own.

3D printing has (at least) as much materials and methods discussion as photography, and most of that is not relevant to Photrio.

An announcement thread, linking to a specific item thread or project information elsewhere might work, though I think it will tend to drift down into the weeds of detail pretty easily. I do design and make my own parts, usually for some very niche applications, so I have some interest in the topic.

With so many of us using old kit, cameras, flashs, darkroom and studio kit. the natural need to be able to keep out stuff operating and even making small tools, like filter wrenches, means employing more and more often, the raw finance power of deep pockets to hire out repairs or parts or, the builders mindset and tool box together with the willingness to try their hand at doing things themselves.

No one is making this stuff new and we are foolish to believe things will just work out over the next 50 years.

One project that would be interesting to more than me alone, is printing the focus ring/lever for Minolta Autocords or sourcing filaments of high enough strength and working qualities to replace the pot metal being used now and the past.

With other builders tools being more affordable and easier to operate, such as 3D scanners, laser cutters, miniature mills and laiths with CAD programming you can use with a phone, pad or laptop, on line or otherwise, it's better to know what can be done and how to do it yourself, if possible.

Plans for common 3D items wanted, ie. Hasselblad one piece filter cases, various lens caps and lens hoods, masks for 6x6cm, larger film needs, tray tongs, wisks, etc.

Also Slide cases, for 35mm and "Super Slide" sizes and plastic Slide Mounts.

35mm, 127 and 120 film canisters to protect on the go film, gunshot and shot stuff..

Your best bet is learning to make these yourself, IMO. It's not awfully difficult and there's a couple of (also free to use) software tools that are reasonably user-friendly. It's liberating to not be dependent on other people's models, and moreover, you can make exactly what you need instead of something that worked well for someone else.

tray tongs, wisks
I expect you're better off re-purposing existing items than printing these.
