I have a new old canon F1 and am keen to take it on holiday over Christmas. I’ve developed two or three rolls from it (one hp5 pushed to 1600) shot inside and one fp4 shot a box speed shot outside on a bright sunny morning (yesterday).

On the fp4 I have what look like some bad light leaks/ agitation surge marks but they’re not consistent across the roll.

The first roll pushed to 1600 was pretty perfect. They were developed in different tanks on different spools and both are loaded from bulk spools.

This is from the 1600

From the same roll of 1600

From the 400

Any help diagnosing this would be hugely appreciated………….

Were both the FP4 and HP5 bulk loaded? It looks to me that the first frame has some exposure though the film on another wrap of the spool, evidenced by the ghost image of the sprocket holes so it's possible that the cassette has a light leak?

Just to chek, I'd buy a factory loaded film and develop using the same tank and technique as you did before and see what happens.

Good shout….. thankyou…….thinking about it that roll had been loaded and kicking about in my camera bag for a while……and my plastic cassettes leave a lot to be desired quality wise…..

Guys …….thank you for all your replies……I was able to roll some fresh hp5 into some pre- checked cassettes this morning and sneak out to my local park and take some early morning test shots in the frost…… happy with the results ….. edges are clean with so signs of leaks so I’m guessing Craig was right. These were shot at 400 and developed in ID-11 for 13 (1+1) at 20…..
