Just picked up a Folmer & Schwing 12x20 camera - now I need film and at least 1 holder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Just a suggestion... some (many? not sure) of the old F&S cameras were modified to fit the "standard" filmholders (that Korona and others used). If you don't have a film holder already, you may want to investigate this a bit to ensure what kind it will fit before you buy a holder.

If you're thinking about shooting with it a decent amount, if it hasn't been modified for the Korona standard, you may want to consider it because the other standard is far more common in the holders available and may make getting holders easier. Also, you can purchase new ones in the Korona standard, but not sure if anyone is making any in the F&S standard.

Lastly, the Korona back design is superior because the ridge is in the holder, not the camera, so the ridge won't be destroyed over time by use as much in the Korona standard. This and availability are the reasons many have been converted. Just a suggestion for considering having it converted if it hasn't been.

Still looking - but thank you Michael and bdial for the wonderful suggestions!

I do group buys of film from Astrum, I can possibly get you LF film of this size on my next order of film. I’d have to calculate the price but it would be substantially cheaper than Ilford ULF if that matters to you.

It is extremely hard to locate and get an original folmer-schwing 12x20 film holder due to its design, a ridge is on camera back, not on the film holder. Even you find one, the holder condition might not be good, such as a curved, not flat septum which can affect the film plane. When I got my 12x20 original/unmodified folmer-schwing camera without a film holder, I did a lot of searching and trading, but never got a good film holder. Finally I realized the best way was to get a new customer made film holder by someone. I asked Firestudio on eBay to make one for me based on the original camera back. It seems the Firestudio is not active on eBay nowadays. It is an extremely pleasure to shoot 12x20, the images on ground glass and films make you feel ecstasy! Good luck with your 12x20!
