I use replenished XTOL because it has better tonality than stock or 1:1 period. Cost in a small benefit for me. You do not have to believe me, the research shows it.
The sharpness would not change, the tonality may be different. I use replenished XTOL for better tonality. I have never paid attention to speed changes because I shoot at box speed with or without adjustment for filters and Zone System.
The problem is doing macro work is illumination. How to get the light coming from the space occupied by the camera? I suggest you look for a ring light around the lens or small strobes on each side of the lens.
The SWC is rectilinearly correct unlike the 40mm lens. As one uses the lens, one sees the advantages of the SWC which one cannot learn from MTF curves and looking at listings. You need to go back an reconsider you decision.
At Kodak in the after hours darkrooms, one would expose the paper in the enlarger, box the paper, leave the room and got to another room with a special revolving door to then put the exposed paper in the Keronite machine. Then leave that room to around to the other side to pick up the processed...
One can spend lots of time and money going the endless testing for every possible set up .... or one can just go take the macro photographs and enjoy what they get.
I prefer a top loading Tamrac photo backpack. They came in two sized and the larger one works will for the Hasselblad with the 80mm lens, 50mm lens and 250mm lens, hoods on all the lenses, several film backs, film, filters, lens clothes and a whole bunch of other things.
My 503 CX does not have the Gliding Mirror System and while I can see a line in the viewfinder with the 250mm, 500mm and 500mm with the 2XE, I never even notice the line. The line does not show up on the negative nor on the slide. I never considered the GLS useful.
There is a slight speed boost with XTOL but I have never seen it nor utilized it. I have used Tri-X [and all other films] at box speed with replenished XTOL.
The SWC is a wonderful camera and is especially useful for crowded situations such as narrow streets. I would recommend that you buy it and carry the 500C/M with the 50mm lens for vacationing, especially in Europe.
I do not have a ventilation fan in the dry darkroom. If carrying an exposed sheet of paper in a box is too much effort for you, then darkroom work is not for you. You really should look into taking up knitting or quilting.
