Thanks Vinny. I prefer the colour version as well, I just shot the b&w with hand-colouring in mind ;) I took two slides and wouldn'tcha know, I scanned & posted the one with the bit of fog coming up from bottom left. Oh well, the other doesn't have it.

    Color/colour gallery.

Interesting idea, you needn't blow it out your hat. I have for several years wanted to make a van Gogh-style photograph but haven't yet achieved it... and may never be able to, I suppose.

Color film rookie in love with Ektar. What other films should I try?

Try some astia 100f and velvia 100 slide films, and also the various kodak and fuji 160 print films.

Well yep, that was my original point in this and some other related threads. I see these as different media for different purposes. I think we as photographers need to be fighting to maintain the diversity... equipment diversity, film diversity. The digi world wants us all to use the same...

See Ron I actually knew that you were going to say that I could learn to see beyond the mask ;) I am just not sure I want to see the world through orange-coloured glasses, even if I do appreciate your POV. Anyway, I have had slide and c41 colour film professionally drum scanned- arguably the...

    Color+exposure>sharpness+contrast?

Well, let me put it this way: with colour metering I do not have any problem picking the right film and filter combo to get good colour rendition, that was my point. That does not mean that I obsess over colour temp- actually I very rarely colour filter. But we do decide whether to use 5000K...

I became slightly less resistant to looking at colour c41 on a light table when I tried the maskless stuff from Rollei. Unfortunately, Rollei's name for it contains the prefix "digi" and so it's going to be a hard sell to some folks here at APUG ;) But I can attest that it is much easier to...

Oh okay I thought the rc digital was ra4 process. I have some here, given me by someone with a digital output machine, and I've been meaning to try it. Admittedly having not yet tried it, I'll say that my assumption was that I could arrange short bright exposures in my enlarger.... Anyway the...

Sure but as you say, ektacolor is discontinued! I know nothing of motion picture film; I rarely shoot 35mm slides. Is the ECP medium available in medium format? Are you going to click on my link and give an honest assessment or not ;) http://keithwilliamsphoto.net/mothdrum.tif Click it...

Thank you! Please do check back next week for the colour version though; I honestly didn't have b&w in mind when I set this up. This was just the version that I could develop quickly myself. What bugs me about this is that the hotspots away from the blossom have no tonal relationship to the...

I know, I get what you are saying and I am saying that I could just as easily say that c41 can't be projected, and declare that a disadvantage of c41! So.... I guess we'll have to leave this up to an arm wrestle sometime soon at a neutral location ;)

    Color+exposure>sharpness+contrast?

Well, the colour group is brand new. I think it will grow if discussions continue to be this interesting! Also, I think we have a bit more latitude for discussions regarding "other" methods for dealing with colour. Which is not to say that any of us are pushing digital capture per se, that is...

Incidentally I question whether you actually see any significant green cast from fluorescents by eye... particularly if they are balanced to 5000K. The green cast and the overall colour temp are two quite different issues. The colour temp is derived from a broad spectral range... many hundreds...

I don't think so, Ron. What I am saying is that it's about as illogical to hold ciba/ilfo issues against slide as it is to say that c41 is inferior because people don't project it and cannot judge colour accuracy directly. In your view, is that a fair case against c41... that we can't project...

P.S. that slide scan is unsharpened and no colour correction was applied. I can prove that to anyone with functional eyeballs because I have the slide.

Ron, brace yourself for an unapologetically argumentative response! Nope, that's still no case against slide film. Whatever you used to call it has long since been solved. Make a case against this... after you download it.... http://keithwilliamsphoto.net/mothdrum.tif I can get prints (on...

It'd be really easy to eliminate the rear rise and tilt, no? Just take those flimsier parts off and replace with sturdy L brackets.

Ah okay my shen 4x10 is 'triple' then and I figured the hzx was too. Brad, may I ask, why do you need triple extension for 4x5, are you using long focal lengths? Or is it just that you prefer rear focusing only? (I do prefer rear focus)

I think you might check out the shen hao hzx4x5, although it has more movements than you want, but that should be easy to fix. Not sure what you mean by triple extension, you got me there! I kinda disagree ;) The eye has a complex mechanism for compensating for changes in colour temp. so that we tend to see a rather neutral image with our eyes. We do not see strongly blue shadows; we do not see green faces illuminated by fluorescents, etc. Indeed, we see colours as roughly warm...
