Admitting that they got something wrong is still much better, both for the user and the firm's image, than sweeping things under the carpet and having faulty film sold, as KodakAlaris did.
Wow, they're giving three years from manufacture date (or were last year)? Used to be two years. That's years newer than the batch(es) with the iron contamination problem, but green is still not a normal color for Xtol. We look forward to hearing what KodakAlaris has to say.
There was a batch of X-Tol that had problems due to a failure of the (revised) packaging material. I would reach out to KodakAlaris - profilm@kodakalaris.com.
While you are at it, maybe you can ask about when the current shortages might end, and report back :).
KodakAlaris did receive a partial interest in that plant as part of the bankruptcy settlement, although that interest was most likely a leasehold interest which may have now expired.
Plant is Colorado is owned by "Carestream" which was Kodak's medical imaging (X-ray) business. it coats colour paper on contract basis for KodakAlaris.
...business isn't the one that is up for sale.
Eastman Kodak still markets the motion picture film, and that business is not up for sale.
KodakAlaris is the entity that has the worldwide marketing rights for Kodak still film (which is actually manufactured by Eastman Kodak) as well as the...
Kodak doesn't own the film division, that's KodakAlaris which was spun off as part of it's bankruptcy settlement. And if the wire stories are accurate Kodak is in talks with a Chinese holding company to sell off it remaining photography and imaging assets including it's color paper plant in...
I've had a "Yellow and Red" monkey on my back for 50 years :D. I'm not going to give it up until they pry it from my fingers. I really miss the company that EK once was. I bought quite a stockpile, but the new XTOL works fine, I see no difference. I've used Ilford Bromophen for the last 25...
This seems to be a good fit for EK. Now if the Government would give Kodak the money to buy the film division from Alaris we would be doing great. There are a lot of very talented people that can make generic drug ingredients . This is a good idea.
I don't think so.
First, KodakAlaris are the ones who drive the issue of what still film products are to be manufactured, based on what KodakAlaris can sell. The motivation for the re-introduction of Ektachrome came mostly from KodakAlaris' end.
Also Eastman Kodak isn't going to change...
And most recently, the headlines are saying that a portion of the KodakAlaris manufacturing business has been sold to a Chinese holding company. Not really confirmed yet, hopefully good news as at least one article spins it...
...- roughly when the receivership of Tetenal threw so much into the realm of uncertainty.
There are a number of black and white chemicals listed on KodakAlaris' website under a May 14, 2020 note indicating that they were dealing with Covid 19 related shipping problems, but HCA isn't one of them.
KodakAlaris is the company formed by the Kodak UK pension plan when Eastman Kodak went bankrupt in 2012. That pension plan had one of if not the largest secured claims against the assets of Eastman Kodak at the time of bankruptcy. As a part of the bankruptcy settlement, the Kodak UK pension...
The products I've always trusted are labeled, "Kodak". The products that seem to be plagued with problems lately are labelled "Kodak Alaris". Assuming Kodak has passed it's consumer analog photo business off to an independent company, then the product quality we're used to could be history. I...
...for Fujifilm color paper, this operation by Sino Promise is located where the customers are.
I hope somehow Eastman Kodak's film business and KodakAlaris' film business can be brought together by a "White Knight" and we will live happily ever after. (Oh, and bring Agfa back too!)
...work. I just prefer not to work with products that are characterized by terms such as "might work" or "might not work". The fact that KodakAlaris actually allowed multiple batches of a product so obviously defective to ship under its name doesn't inspire trust.
I am no chemist, so I...
...to a production problem with recent (since August 2019) batches of Dektol turning very dark brown immediately when aded to water. KodakAlaris acknowledged the issue, promising to resolve the problem Soon thereafter, Dektol became backordered on B&H and Adorama and has only now become...
Unfortunately not in the short and mid term future. Eastman Kodak and KodakAlaris have been in talks about it. When KA decided to sell the film, photo paper and chemical part of their business, EK was of course the first (and best) candidate for it. But it looks like EK had / has not the...
No, this plant is a Carestream factory. But Carestream has been doing contract coating runs of silver-halide RA-4 photo paper for KodakAlaris.
Best regards,
Henning
...precise, and some details are definitely wrong.
Best is to wait for the final deal and official statement.
In January I've been told by KodakAlaris that the sale of the film, photo paper and chemical part of KA was put on hold. In March a global reorganization has started. Now it looks that...
...their only remaining manufacturing interest is a partial interest in the Colorado facility shared with Carestream.
As I understand it, KodakAlaris isn't being sold. KodakAlaris is doing the selling - of parts of their business.
They have an office document related business that no-one...
It this is to be believed, KodakAlaris has been sold to Sino Promise Holdings. The deal includes paper, photochemicals, display and software. Kodak's film division is NOT part of the deal...
As posted before, from KodakAlaris' website:
"Update: COVID 19 Chemistry shipment delays; May 14, 2020
We are experiencing shipping delays on the products listed below.
KA operations is working as quickly as possible to resolve this.

I just went through this, unfortunately. The eventual outcome was pleasant enough thanks to Alaris in Ca.

Yeah I have contacted them. Will wait til they get back from holidays to see what they say. Yes I did put a lot of effort in for these ones. Oh well. More thirst for the next shoot. Thanks for the response
Definitely contact KodakAlaris. These days transportation is so much more of a variable, smaller shipments longer transit times. KodakAlaris has been quite good about responding to technical issues. I shoot a lot of Kodak 120, I always order in the cooler months and refrigerate until use...
