    Has Adox MCC 110 Changed?

Hi everyone, I have been using Adox MCC 110 for a few years and I have recently noticed some serious change of its characteristics. It used to come with White boxes (I assume it's until beginning of 2012) then it changed to Red boxes(paper is same as one in white boxes though), then again...

    Thomas Duplex Issues

I'm about at the point of trying a fresh filter from Freestyle (or whomsoever retails them) just to see what happens. The sheet of rubylith came in today, though, so I'm going to test that out tonight...and if I still get fogging then I'll know something silly is going on, somewhere, although I...

    Bad Pan F ??

Thank you Simon, for this and for your continued involvement here on Apug. Could you point me to the official word on the latent image properties of Pan-F+? Pan-F has long been one of my favorite films and if I pass information about it along I want to know I'm being correct. Thanks, Erik

    Bad Pan F ??

Dear NB23, I have discussed the latent image properties of PAN F and PAN F + before. PAN F+ is NOT unstable and your theory regarding date stamping an 'old' roll is laughable. We coat each of our films on a regular basis, some monthly, some bi-monthly and some tri-monthly and one of...

What is the probability of old paper being good?

I purchase a Beseler Stand from someone closing down their darkroom. I am offered the following paper for $ however, I don't want it if its no good. I am not able to set up a darkroom to test it although maybe could do some limited testing. Anyway, I listed below what is offered. Any comment...

Is there a trick to determine what type of film you loaded (LF)

The codes for B&W and color (at least for Kodak films) are pretty different. The code is also illustrated on the box (again, Kodak products, Ilford too, I believe) so you can look at what to expect before turning out the lights. As sort of a last resort short of turning on the lights on a sheet...

News From HARMAN technology Limited :

From about 1975 or so for many years both Agfa and Ilford used basicaly the same cassettes, there were minor differences. These were plain black metal and had a paper label. They DID NOT have a DX code. The Agfa ones tended to have silver caps, the Ilford ones were more of a gold colour. I...

Why Some Paper Makers Do Not Print Expiration Date?

Most paper is very slow something in the neighbourhood of ISO <5 so while film can expire in 2-3 years, for paper it's more then 10 years. If you went into the store and saw paper that expires in 2025, you would probably not believe it's correct. Most companies put an emulsion number on the...

Agfa MCP312 RC Semi-Matt variable contrast 8x10 paper 33 sheets I discovered Agfa paper right as it was being discontinued several years ago, and bought random bunches on eBay that had been stored dubiously. I tried some recently, and like other batches I’ve had, it’s slightly fogged. Even...

Old Ilford Paper - Info For Simon Galley

Actually they do have a date code, a letter and two mumbers, the number's the year. I've found the same with Ilfospeed and also much older Ilfobrom (FB) as well as Kodak Bromide papers from the early 60's, they all keep remarkably well, don't seem to have a base fog with aging, they do slow...

    Ilford mfg. code?

Yes, the chemistry batch codes also include the date of manufacture in the first two digits just like the paper and film codes. In addition, films are also labeled with an expiration date, which you can safely ignore if the film was refrigerated.

    Ilford mfg. code?

Thanks - I figured out how to decipher the paper code. The chemistry code is more important to me - Ilford states WT developer has a shelf life of 2 years. The six digit code doesn't resemble the paper code, and if the first 2 digits are the date, I just bought a bottle made in '09.

Color Fixer can it be used in B&W devlopment

Hello. Sorry if I am in the wrong forum. I have a question about Color Fixer. The exact fixer is called NeoColor II it says it's Fixer & Replenisher (by Russell Chems) on the label it says "Equivalent to process C-41B (NP) . The fixer is made by L.B. RUSSELL CHEMICALS INC. I have only found one...

Old Kodak Paper - what to expect.

I don't think anyone can say for definite what to expect unless he knows age of paper and storage conditions. Assuming your buddy can't remember when he got it,isn't there a code on the box that could be checked with Kodak? Probably quicker and easier is to check for age fogging by cutting a...

Message for Simon of Harman/ Ilford

I'm not sure I understand the point you are trying to make here. Legal acts also define the metric measures, that's a requirement for weights and measures purposes in all jurisdictions. There is no difference here. In 1959 the yard was 'regularised' to the existing definition of the metre. In...

    Ilford paper code

Oct 2006 if I'm correct. Keep in mind, well stored paper is good for many years. Ilford estimates of around 3 years are very conservative in my opinion. I have used paper 5-10 years old with no problem. By the way, marking the box with the purchase date is a very good idea!

    Ilford paper code

You don't have to wait until then to have two '01s'. Ilford is using this system for decades! July 1996 was another '01'. As I said earlier, Kodak was using a similar system for paper. Agfa was using a completely different system. They just printed the use-by-date on the box, and saved us from...

    Ilford paper code

I gave you half the answer in my earlier post (#3), but nobody picked up on it. Thinking about it again, I was able to decode their system to the following: The first two numbers indicate the month of manufacture starting at 01 and going to 99. The number '00' is not used. Since he identified...

    Ilford paper code

Did Simon by any chance tell you how to work out the age of the paper from the code? If there was a simple method and I suspect there is if you know the code then Simon could avoid the workload that of answering individual queries and/or the Ilford help desk that you can use on the website could...

    Ilford paper code

I might be able to do it, But what makes you think it is already old? Would you think it could be older than 8 years? The numbers may mean dif dates. Packaging/condition might be a clue. If you are lucky, it might be just shy of 18 months old... Otherwise- consider giving Harman some...

    Ilford paper code

At one time Ilford used a simple letter/number code on paper, film, chemicals etc. So my Phenidone was something like C62, the 62 meaning 1962. The code date of 35m mfilm manufacture was printed on the label on the cassettes. I'm not sure exactly when Ilford changed the system, I think I'd...

    Ilford paper code

This is my second thread, forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum :) I was wondering how old a certain (un opened) pack of ilford paper is. I found a code on the back cover: 42D7616. Now I read something about this, and it would be possible to determine the paper's age by examining the...

Asking Ilford to publish expired date of paper

I have heard in the past that the need to age emulsion before sale is an urban myth. So adding chemicals to paper to speed this up, would also be a myth. I can see why those reps. are no longer with the company. Really, I doubt that you can buy paper that's less then 6 months from...

Asking Ilford to publish expired date of paper

All would have been fine if paper were made like it used to be. Today there are chemicals in the paper so the manufacture does not need to age the emulsion before sale. They save money. The downside it continues to age very fast on the dealers shelf so the life span is 3 years. I was also...
