I have used replenished XTOL for years and a single bottle of replenished XTOL for over a year. As with any developer, a quick film test is always advised.
Salt water has to be removed with distilled water. With salt water or non salt water one after cleaning up as much as possible, put the camera in a sealed plastic bag and an open container of rice or a descant to remove all the moisture from the camera.
It is a good idea to send out all you cameras with light meters, the spot meter and any other light meter which you use and have all of them calibrated so that their readings match.
Problem 1: drill a small diameter pilot hole and use an easy out to remove the screw. An easy out is a conical left hand threaded tool designed for exactly this type of problem.

Stick with the prewash. You may have had some contaminated chemical. If so a new set of chemicals would provide the results you want.
