Hi,
My Kine Exakta's mirror could do with a resilvering, there's a company here in the UK that can do that.
However, I need to extract the mirror from the camera to get the work done.
Does anyone know how to get the lens out? I've removed the mount from the camera body, however, the Kine doesn't have the extra cutouts at 3 and 9 o'clock that the later models have that would give enough clearance to slide the mirror out after gently straightening the retaining clips - any help would be appreciated.

Ah, so there was no take-up on this and after watching a couple of teardown videos it didn't look like a complex strip-down would get me any closer to mirror removal.
So... At the risk of the sound of pearl-clutching from the collector community I decided to take a more direct route.
As in my original post above, I mentioned that other, probably later models of the Exakta have handy cutouts once the lens mount is removed - at 90 degrees and 270 degrees. So I decided to make my own.

After removing the mount and setting the camera on Z to retract the mirror and open the shutter curtains I gently filed two channels at 90 degrees and 270 degrees using fine needle files at a slight angle as the mirror won't be coming out 'flat' - it only needs around 2mm per side to allow enough space to cleanly extract the mirror. And Bob's your uncle, one extracted mirror.

The reverse of the mirror gives a date of 22/8/38 so narrows down the production date of my particular camera.

Mirror extracted it's next stop will be scientificmirrors.co.uk for a resurfacing, then re-installation and a touch of black paint to any losses around the mirror box.

I thought it might be useful to update this for anyone else that may need access to the mirror on a similar model.

Images to follow in the next post.

That is certainly direct! Though it seems like a harmless modificiation that will save the risk of much disassembly. I think I'd do it itoo.
