My House Burned Down Today 5 - The Roof, The Roof, The Roof Was On Fire...

So it's been quite a frustrating day, my house burned down, and the only way for me to turn the bad into good was take a few photos. I really couldn't see much, it was very dark, and I basically messed up one or more lines in every photo while adjusting for the ones I could see, I missed a whole bunch that I couldn't see. Such is life I suppose.

Don't worry, no one was there at the time, no film or camera was lost, and the suspect is either a druggie who broke in to stay warm, or someone lighting fires for kicks, apparently I wasn't the only house at that time that "got hit" in the city. At least I got the exposures right...

Bummer...

So sorry, but very glad to hear no one and nothing precious was lost. Many years ago my neighbour arrived on my doorstep in the middle of the night, a child under each arm. Lost everything but the pyjamas they were wearing. Her matter-of-fact acceptance of the situation reminds me of yours....

Thank you all again for your kind responses. It does seem that when it rains it pours, I'm currently actually in Maryland visiting my aunt who has been stricken with cancer that we only found out about last month, it is already stage 4 and so I suppose part of my calm is simply that I'm reminded of the fact that it's just a bunch of sticks and plastic, and of no real value to me the way my friends and family are. Part of it is just that, despite my seemingly strong personality here, I tend to take life well and have an even demeanor in times of tragedy more-so than in easy times. I've just had a lot of bad happen to me, so I guess I'm good at recovering? To the firefighter, I think that would be an awesome project, I see burnt teddy bears and broken wine bottles and half burnt family pictures, a sad but honest look at the tragedies we endure and the way we move on. I think the best way to do that would be to choose only the homes that no one was severely hurt, and to show an example of both the tragedy, and the way which that family recovered in their new home.Eric, I'm not confused about my address, I mean that the news repeaters were confused about my address and listed my name and the address incorrectly in almost every report. I can see why, half the houses on that street don't exactly have numbers on them, so it's hard to identify them correctly, it's not a great area, but I enjoyed the 5 or so years I spent living there. Thanks guys again, it's nice that everyone is so supportive. I'm safe, and have a place to stay etc.As far as being able to take photos, it wasn't easy, I felt a bit like a zombie when I was doing it, going through the motions, but I've learned that sometimes as a photographer you just need to push yourself to shoot even when you don't want to, it's important, in so many more ways than I can think of, it's important, ABC Always Be Clicking (Glen Garry, Glen Ross movie reference).

Very sorry for you loss Stone. I'm glad you stayed optimistic.
