Frank

A real good friend who has been gone a few years now. He loved to have his photo made. He was 84 when I made this one and still working. Was a nuclear physicist in the 50's and 60's but got fed up and became a heavy equipment operator. A very complex man he was.

Mike, Thanks for sharing his/your story..these are some of the BEST things about photography - the people we meet, the stories behind them, and the EVERY LASTING images we have to share. Since this IS the critique gallery, what can I say but - DON'T CHANGE A THING, the old boys eyes say it all...think I would have enjoyed a good cup of coffee with him and maybe got a story or two from him.

I agree with Mike C, this type of photograph and story is very interesting and a wonderful keepsake. The detail and crop are just right, nice work!

Mike,

This print does tell us a story. You have captured that something about this man. How can I say it? You have shown me but an instant of this man's life, but his expression, his eyes, his face tells me so much more about him.

Yup you've caught it all in his eyes and in a way that only someone making a real connection can do. Really good one IMO. regards, John.

Before I read these comments, I was drawn by the eyes. There is an incredible warmth to them which is perfectly caught. A kind man? Did he have any children and if so do they have a copy of this? If not, it is a suggestion, as I doubt they have another photo of him half as engaging and communicative as this. It would probably be painful for them to look at it as the eyes would have them. Do you know what I mean?

Tom

Yes, his son and I are close and he has this photo. Frank was such a kind hearted man. He had the bluest eyes I have ever seen in my life (good Norwegion stock). I read in the Bible once that the "eyes are the window to the soul" and he had a soul (and heart) the size of Texas!!

Well, the random photo came up with this one, it's been almost a year since I last looked at it and still LOVE IT, Mike. What a great gift for his son and for us...you done good son..
