I used my RH Designs Zonemaster II today in the lab, briefly. I guess it comes calibrated for Ilford Multigrade RC paper. I did a print in a jiffy today that looks great to me!

I have tried it on fiber and it comes out too dark. I will have to figure out how to calibrate it for that. I'm still looking through the manual. I read it but forgot alot, so I am re-reading it.

Any tips for first timers that I might not find in the manual?

There are a couple of contributed articles on the RH website that you may find helpful - particularly with respect to the calibration procedure.

Hi Melisa

I got an Analyser Pro for Christmas which is the combined Zonemaster II with a timer. I'm still learning, but yesterday I managed to calibrate it for some Kentmere paper that I'm using. It took me all morning, but it seemed to work

When you say that your fibre prints were coming out too dark -- were you still using the standard settings? There are 8 different channels called PAP1, PAP2 upto PAP8. (PAP as in paper). Out of the box, all 8 channels are calibrated for Ilford Multigrade MGIV RC.

On RH Design's website there are some calibrations for other papers including Ilford Multigrade Fibre (http://www.rhdesigns.co.uk/darkroom/html/caltable1.html), however, to use them you'll need to enter the offsets and contrast settings into the Zonemaster using the "calibration mode".

I find the Analyser Pro to be a fantastic piece of kit which has already improved my prints in the short time that I've been using it, however it's not the most intuitive of instrument to use. Especially, setting it up. It's annoying having to use the same buttons for more than one function which makes it difficult to remember. Also, you have to be very careful that you're using the right PAP channel for your paper. There really should be a visual reminder of which channel you're using.

Ask any questions and I'll try to help. It'll help me learn it as well

Cheers

A very good remark.
Or a visual reminder, or the possibility to 'set up' for using the next time you use the AnaPro at 'the latest PAP chanel choise'...
Many times you start with another PAP Chanel that you want to.
