Does anyone on here have (or has had experience of) a Super Ikonta IV?
I was not sure whether to put this thread here, in the MF forum or in the rangefinder forum.
I recently acquired a rather nice example and ran the first film through today. Early indications are that nearly everything has worked as intended but as the film is still hanging up to dry it will need greater scrutiny to really determine if all is well.
I have read elsewhere that there are sometimes problems with the frame spacing and that this is due to the fact that film and backing in the 1950's made the roll slightly thicker. There are suggestions to tape about 2" of backing paper from a used roll to the leader of the new roll to correct the problem.
Today I used Ilford HP5 and what I can see is that the camera was rather generous with the length of film it used in advancing to frame "1". The result of this is too much wasted film at the beginning and the final frame ("12") chopped off due to the film reaching the end too soon (because there was too much leader). The actual spacing of frames looks good and exposure shows no huge errors from the built in light meter (or shutter speed accuracy).
Can anyone advise on this issue? I would also be interested to hear any other experiences of using this model. It seemed very straightforward to use and reasonably quick but a bit fiddly although I confess that I absolutely love it.
