Hi,
I am new to this forum ( not to photography ) so hopefully I have started this thread in the best forum section!
I just bought what looks to be a nice working 1939 Contax II and want to have it checked and CLA'd at the very minimum, with more likely a shutter tape change out as well, by a good pre war Contax service hand.
My initial thoughts are to ship the camera to Henry Scherer in the US (he has the correct silk tape) or is there an equally well equipped (shutter calibration) and qualified person in the UK or Europe -Zeiss themselves maybe?.
I want the best possible service/overhaul available.
If someone knows of any other such person or even just to confirm my initial choice, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

If you do decide to sent to USA there is good feedback out there for Essex Camera in the state of New Jersey.

I bought a III that had ribbon repair/replacement just recently before I purchased it and the repair was done by Essex.
It is bang on so far going by exposure results (don't own a shutter speed tester).

The camera was cla'd and i is working smoothly in all regards except the meter :errm: (they dont work on selenium meters)

Unfortunately, the excellent repairman I used that specialized in prewar Contax rangefinder recently passed on.

Where are you located?
I would send an email to Jurgen Kuschnik (.com) in Germany and see if he can do it - or he may know of a specialist.
There are people out there that can do the repair- Scherer being one of the most well known.

Thanks for that Henry Scherer has a waiting list of 3 years he just replied to me so I will go on it anyway! meanwhile I will ask Jurgen Kuschnik and see what he says. Its a bit closer to Scotland as well, not that its an issue I just want the best service.
Thanks for the contact.

One person mentioned frequently by classic camera author Ivor Matanle is Ed Trzoska in Leicester on 0116 2674247. Mr. Matanle has often said he is both competent and reasonable.

Thanks thats definately a lot closer! I will give him a call about it, good to know of recommended people by people who count!
Cheers
George
