From 35mm B&W negs, I'll go to 11x14 max; for 120 and 4x5, to 16x20. Can't print any bigger in my darkroom.

I voted 11x14 because of the word "typical" in the question.

I can do 16x20, but haven't in a long time.

Ralph, I'm not sure what question you are asking

What is the largest print size you normally make ?

and/or

What is the largest print size you occasionally make ?

Martin

What is the largest print size you normally make?

Ralph:

Are you referring to our own darkroom work?

If it is not too late, you might wish to edit your original post to read something like:

"When doing your own darkroom work, what is the largest print size you normally make?"

Matt

11x14 I would do 16x20 but I do not have the trays. I could do 20x24 but the space would be tight in my wet darkroom.

I voted 11x14 because I usually print on 9.5x12 paper, although I always print the image smaller than the actual paper size. I take it that's you meant -- actual paper size used when printing?

The largest size I could print would be 11x14 anyway, due to limitations of tray sizes and wet darkroom space.

Ralph,

Let me first say, that I have enjoyed your posts. But I think that you need to add a part to your list 'contact prints'. I work as big as 11x14 and as small as 2 1/4 in my work. So my vote is all of the above.

I've been meaning to start a thread about print size too. The reason has to do with the all too forceful pressure to make larger, and larger prints to satisfy a current gallery imperative. (It also seems to help if your 'graph is in desaturated color and has a strong ironic element that's hard to miss.) I favor square prints on 11x14 paper (I responded to the poll, btw), so my most typical work is 10x10 inches.

I'm not sure why you're taking this census, but I will be curious to see the ultimate outcome.

I make all sizes, but my print washer will only handle 11X14, so that's my normal max. If I need larger, I have to wash them in the sink. Only do that when really necessary.

11x14 is the largest print size my small darkroom can handle. I like the size and only for a few images do I sometimes wish I could make a 16x20.

My film prints are almost exclusivly 8x10 except for a few 11x14's I did in class. I bought a four blade easel on ebay, so I'll be able to do anything up to 11x14 in a few weeks (hopefully). I used to print 8x12's back when I had the kind of camera that we dont speak of (because I like the 2:3 format), but I sold it to help pay for darkroom stuff

I'm not very fond of 8x10 paper. I usually print on 5x7 or 11x14, both usually cut to the size of the negative rather than cropping.

Typical for me is whatever will fit onto 11x14 paper.

For 35, I usually make them 8x12 full frame, and sometimes right up to the edge at 9x13.5.

11x14 is the largest I print now. My washer can only handle up to this size. But most of my work is on 8x10. I would love to get into 16x20 but I'd need trays and man is the paper expensive! $4.00 a sheet for my favorite, Ilford warmtone.

My favorite too, and my feelings exactly re: price! I don't understand why it is so much more expensive than regular MGIV. It's nearly twice as much!

i can print up to 16x20 but the largest print i regularly make is 11x14,
or a 11x14 sheet with a large white border and 8x10 image in it.
i also enjoy making very small prints on 8x10 paper, and if given the choice
i would print small all the time.

I voted 8x10. All of my work prints from 35mm, 120 & 4x5 are printed to 8x10 for evaluation. If I like what I see I can go as large as 16x20 but rarely do so.
8x10's & 11x14's fill up wall space fast enough.
