Your opinion needed before buying this camera

It's not heliar but the camera is near immaculate and comes with accessories.

I spend more than that trying to put together a similar provisioned Voightlander 9x12 with used, less pristine accessories.

Bellows known good? Agfa folders have a reputation for bellows issues, but I don’t know if that extends to their older plate cameras.

It looks like it’s a 6.5x9, which means the rollfilm back is important, as 6.5x9 sheets are hard to come by. Personally, I like the format but find the small ground glass a little challenging.

Seems like a perfectly good camera and a nice package if everything is in good working order.

Yes, regarding bellows that was my concern too.

Seller knows a bit more about the cameras and he wanted to sell it because he got himself a largeformat camera.

He also said, bellows are light tight, shutter is working and the lens is clean.

Most important of all is the fact that it comes with appropriate holders. Those film holders are borderline impossible to find.

Yes, if you don't jump on this one, let me know and I will. All kidding aside, for what is there in the kit that's a very good price. The older Agfa cameras like this one had bellows that were well-made and better material than the Agfa/Ansco cameras from the early to late 50's

Agfa Isolar, one of the boxes says.
Some cassettes for plates, fine.
Ready for 120 roll film: a Rollex for 6x9cm (it seems) on 9x12 back is included!

So far so good for that price.
I'm not familar with Agfa optics... is the Solinar here a Tessar design?

I will say definitely go for it, especially it is such a complete system with all the sheet film holders and roll film holders. The Solinear lens should be plenty good too (not sure if it is a Tessar or Triplet).

I have to buy three cameras sets in order to get the right film backs. There are so many different variants of 9x12 holders, that call yourself lucky if everything in this kit works together.

Yes, almost sure it is a 9x12.
I have a 6x9 Rollex on a 6.5x9 camera, it has no oversized frame like here.

It's a really nice complete set, and with its box, I think that's a fair price, a bargain. A set like that would sell for a lot more on eBay, and almost certainly go to a Japanese buyer. The lens won't be coated, as it's a pre-WWII camera.

Someone said a compact 9x12 camera, well yes compared to say a 5x4 Speed or Crown Graphic, but then compared to a 9x12 Patent Etui . . . . . . . . . .

In practice that extra bulk/mass makes the camera easier to hand-hold at slower shutter speeds.

I've just been discussing 9x12 with member Thorsten.

And thanks to Ian above, I managed to get three Voigtlander plate holders last weekend for a bargain at a camera fair.

Now I can shoot my hoard of Ilford FP3 plates on my Bergheil.

The problem with Patent Etui cameras is they use plate holders with an unusually thin lip. I've yet to find any that will fit my 9x12. I bought 4 boxes of metal plate holders 9 or 10 years ago, no luck, but there were two cased sets of 3 6.5x9 KW plate-holders, and a film pack holder. 2 years ago I found a really nice 6.5x9 Patent Etui, then early last year a 6x9 Rollex that was the right fit, I think £5, maybe £0 but no more.

So essentially I had a 6.5x9 setup much like the 9x12 you've just bought, I added 6 6.5x9 film inserts, and it sold to a Japanese collector.

I think the Agfa takes quite a common plate holder (in terms of edge fit), you should be able to find some film inserts for the plate holders. I should have said earlier the lens is in a Dial-set Compur, so pre-1929/30. The shutter has a serial number, and you should be able to look up a rough date.

Me too got a plethora of plate holders, 9x12, 10x15, 13x18 (if I am not mistaken) and few smaller than 9x12.

I am curious whether this dial set can take my Dagor 168mm f/6.8 lens elements.I roughly measured the front diameter which is ~31.5 mm

The "Tapeten-Rolleicord" is a piece of art, and I like the early frame counter. They are not cheap these days.

9x12 Patent Etui

I had one of those a while ago; it was my first venture into sheet film. If it'd had a Tessar type lens, I'd probably still have it.
