Now (with the exception of Jeremy) that it has been decided that the smooth side goes up, if you who print a lot of Pl/pd had to settle on one paper, what would your choice be?

:D

I wholeheartedly recommend Arches Platine. It's a wonderful paper (on the smooth and B side).

Cranes 90# cover (think Photogs Formulary calls it Cranes Platinotype)

Arches platine is damn nice as well.

Guess it would depend, everyone seems to have a fav - it is the one that works best for the way they work. Never could play favorites though (hey I have twin daughters  ) so I really like Arches Platine/COT320 and Cranes Cover Stock/Plantinotype - but I also like Rising Stonehenge for my VDB (I know you said Pl/Pd)

Having only tried platinotype and cot320, I much prefer cot320.

I've been looking. Where do you guys get cot 320?

I buy it from Bostick & Sullivan. I believe that Artcraft sells it too. If anyone knows of a cheaper source, I'd be glad to hear it. That stuff is expensive.

It would be a pain to use only one paper  If I had to choose, Arches Platine without any hesitation.

Cranes Cover 90 can be purchased directly from Cranes in parent sized sheets and pre-cut 8.5x11 sheets. And it costs less to purchase direct. 25 sheet minimum for about $35 or so for parent sized sheets. 100 sheet boxes for 8.5x11 size for about $20. Shipping is extra.

P.S. Arches Platine if only one paper were available.

COT 320. My first paper was platinotype and I thought it was pretty good until I started using COT 320. I think that COT 320 gets a better black. I have no test data to back that up, just a general impression. I would rather make photographs than test.

Don,

Thanks for the info. I was always wondering where I could buy Cranes paper inexpensively. I went to Cranes website, but they have different weight. Why people use #90? There are heavier ones too.

Any thought on this? Thanks.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

p.s.: I did find the manual for PM2L online as well as your explanation here as well. Thanks for the tip though.

Tsuyoshi,

The Cover weights greater than 90# bubble and delaminate iduring processing. Iknow since I've tried it. Just call Cranes as I've found their website to be pretty useless last I was there. They have a program called Cranes Direct. They will only sell a limited number of products direct to the consumer though.

Ive ordered my Cranes 90# direct from cranes for the last few months. I order about 60 sheets of 23x29 at a time. Hasnt been a problem yet. they always manage to get the paper to me undamaged and spotless too

Hi Scooter,

Do you mind letting me know the product code on your invoice for Crane 90#? The Crane website isn't the easiest to find what you want. I enquired several times but got no reply from them.

By the way, I wanted to buy Socorro from B&S recently but was told they don't have it anymore. Does anyone know if this is permanent?

Thanks again.

Just give Crane a call. They have an 800 number and ask to speak to someone about the Crane Direct Sales Program. You will be directed to someone that can inform you of the products available and take an order. The parent sized sheets come 20 to a pack (23x29). I looked on the label of one of my boxes and it reads, 'Natural White Wove wt 90'. The only thing that resembles a product number is '21469'. There is also a lot number and a bar code.

As for the Socorro you may have to go through the Crane's dealer network to get the paper if B&S has stopped carrying it. That usually means you will need to purchase 500 sheet lots.

Smooth as a baby's bottom.
Where do you get this paper? Is it white or cream colored?
