The on again/off again nature of my photographic time means I have to mix a lot of my own chemicals. These days about the only things I buy pre-packaged for film development are stop and fix.

I stick with D76 cause it's the only one my local camera store carries. My only issues with it is it's not the easiest to push or pull, and doesn't like to do stand developing, which I've always wanted to try. But it works great with the film I use under normal circumstances, which is the majority of my circumstances.

D-76 and Ilfotec DD-X. I rarely use anything else and shoot almost exclusively on HP5+ and/or Tri-X these days.

Caffenol C-L for consistent success, just need to tweak the potassium Bromide a bit to slow it down more now that I have received some good advice from APUG members as to what a good neg should look like. Rodinal for consistent failure when I feel like whipping myself. Only doing 1+25 or 1+100 from now on as just carn't get it right with other dilutions. Maybe should be agitating with the left hand for Rodinal!

Sumatranol (if I don't drink the brew before it cools) when I have a mix of expired films = Oher (Homebrew non-commercial)

There's 105, Red and Blue that I know of, but if Beutler was as prolific as Crawley and some of the others... there's likely more. I've been reading more and more about D-23 since. Are you using Photographer's Formulary version? Not ready to go there (yet), I have a box of Perceptol to try.

There are several versions. One was posted by Tom A in the Recipe section of the Resources on this forum as Beutler GD. His part B is a bit different than mine. My Beutler formula is from the Manual of Photography, 7th Edition. It is a two part formula.
PART A
10g - Metol
50g - Sodium Sulfite
1 liter of distilled water

PART B
50g - Sodium Carbonate
1 liter of distilled water

I mix 1 part solution A with 1 part solution B in 8 parts of water and use it one shot and discard. I am currently developing JCH Streetpan 400 for 11 minutes at 68 degrees F.

Photo Formulary sells a very similar version they call Developer FX-1 that includes some Potassium Iodide in the Part B mix.If you are just interested in trying this formula out without investing in the chemicals this might be a good option.

Photo Formulary also sells a Developer 23 that seems to be D-23 so, again, you can try it without investing too much in chemicals.

What film do you usually pair Microphen with? I just prepared 1L to develop at couple of Delta3200 films (120) and was wondering what else i should try it with for a change. Any suggestions?

The designations 'Blue' and 'Red ' apply to Neofin a commercial developer and not the Beutler formula. Neofin Red has been discontinued for a number of years. The Blue version bears little resemblance to the Beutler formula. However you are correct that there are other Beutler developers. Besides the two solutions (A and C) usually quoted as the Beutler formula there was a solution B and a solution D. Solution B was potassium bromide and solution D was a mixture of hydroquinone and sodium sulfite. Various combinations of A, B, C, and D were possible. All four solutions were used to make a paper developer.
