I saw this show at the Eastman House in Rochester. Amazing stuff. Well worth making the effort to see.

Just saw a blurb in the "sidekick" section of the Globe about this exhibit at the Addison Gallery/Phillips Academy in Andover. Looks like a fascinating show. It's open through April 9th. www.addisongallery.org

I went to this show today. It was great. I saw a woman there that looked just a bit like Suzanne...but the hair coloring was different and so i didn't say anything.
But anyways, it was great to see actual photographs of famous people in the 1850's! Drew

Drew... I made it to this show today... got there right around 1pm, but had the kids with me so I was there for all of a half hour!! Anyway... free admission, so I'll go back when I can spend more time. Those daguerrotypes were absolutly stunning!! I've never seen such well preserved dags... and some of the images... the post mortem child, heart wrenching. Superb portraits, and eerie having these ghost like figures looking at you from a hundred years away. All in all, breathtaking.

Well worth the effort to see it... too bad the book was $120. I settled for a few postcards. (although I found it on Amazon for the bargain basement price of about $73.00) I try to keep myself to one photo book every two months, another for my list!

Go see this show if you are anywhere in the area!

I went to the Boston Athenaeum last night to hear Grant B. Romer (the curator and editor of the book Young America: The Daguerreotypes of Southworth and Hawes ) - great speaker, wonderful huge projected images. He tracked down the current occupant of the space where their studio was... and it's a CVS with a portrait taking space (passport pictures etc). Footprint of time. Had a wonderful time there. My boyfriend is building a large-plate daguerreotype camera; hope to have it ready by springtime.

Now there is a reason for having an up-to-date list of events! I'd have loved to go to that event..if I had known about it. ...not much time to read the newspaper these days.
