"You must use a really good AI."

But anyway, I have always felt that as an artist shapes with a tool, the tool shapes the artist as well. In photography, one may tend to see as one's camera and lenses 'see'...or perhaps use a process that influences how one sees and creates images.
I agree 100%

And of course there is no image if there is no camera. Oh well if you use AI you may not need a camera after all.

When a long time friend of mine the other day saw my latest print he told me that I have a very good camera. It could just have been a comment slightly out of place if it was just the once, but it isn’t. If my friend is to be believed I have a bunch of very good cameras but what he thinks of my photographic skills are still a mystery after about 45 years of knowing him since he is always praising my equipment.

"Yes, I do, thnak you. But keep in mind that if someone put a Strandberg gutar into your hands or into my hands, the music it produced would probably sound pretty attrocious! It wouldn't sound a lot better than a $50 pawn shop buy. How it is used is what is most important."

I had a friend ask to see the camera I was using. She had seen the pictures I had took (on the back of the digital camera) and proceeded to look through the view finder a bit perplexed. This camera was actually another friend's camera I was using at a baby shower. I think she was finally understanding I was creating the images, not the equipment. I had taken pictures of her family and she was familiar with my work.

I think a lot of laypeople have rarely (or never) taken a really good photo, and assume when they encounter a selection of good photographs that the camera has more to do with it than the photographer. I suspect they fail to make the logical conclusion that it is their lack of skill rather than the fact that they weren't using a high end camera. The thought process is that they, too, could do that if they had 2000 dollarpounds to spend on gear.

Though cameras with automated features certainly help people who haven't learned photography to take decent photos in terms of getting the exposure within acceptable parameters....nothing can replace the artistic eye/brain. I am certain that most, if not all, of us could take a set of lovely photos with a box camera.
