For those who are Serious about their Red Dots...let's take it to the Large Format thread. 🤨 🤓
LOL...I had forgotten about them -- got two of them...19" and 24". Very nice pieces of glass.

This is with the 24" RD Artar -- must have a defect...that's not sky in the back -- it is the Sierra Nevadas, and the lens must have had some sort of anti-mountain coating on it.

Yard Seller: "Yeah, I dunno. It says 'Leica M3' on it but it doesn't have a red dot so it's probably not real. $25 too much for you?"

True story:

Some years ago, my boss came to me and said, "A family friend just passed away and his wife is looking for help selling his cameras, and will offer you a deal if you take the whole thing off her hands."

A couple days later, he show ups with an absolutely mint/like new assortment that included an M6, with a 50mm Noctilux, as well as another 50mm, 28mm, and 90mm lenses as I recall - all Leica.

Told them what the stuff was worth - as I recall it was something like $10K (or more) at the time. The lady offered it to me for $5K and I stupidly declined. I just didn't want to tie up that much money in a 35mm system.

So, I had my shot at the "Leica find" deal and blew it ;(

(In fairness, this was years before I contracted the Leica GAS disease...)

I thought I was stuck in the bad photographer pool, but I realized I have one with a red dot AND a red diamond.

False. Some photographers using such cameras have turned out to be outstandingly excellent, and some outstandingly bad.

OTOH:
<<You can be a good photographer only if you have a camera with a red dot.>>. Also false.

As in 'never give a sucker an even break'? That's a bit cynical isn't it? I think any photographer taking advantage of their greater knowledge of red dots in a one-to-one sale would have an ethical or moral problem to face don't you? Isn't the whole 'do unto others...' thing meant to stop that sort of bad behaviour by photographers? Mind you it's probably something Nikon or Pentax users would do, a terrible lot they are.
