First off, why would you build a prototype? Just build the damn camera. LF scales rather easily.
Second, over 8x10 to 16x20 what do you get other than sensationalism?

When the ensuing process gets in the way of the final objective, what's the point? How does a 4.5x6 foot negative give you anything more than a 16x20 negative? Just costs more money, the equipment gets in the way, the process requires more investment in time, money, and energy that could be put towards the objective of the project. If the objective is not exposing American cultures, then what's the point? Making big pictures? Because you can?

No thanks. I'll take my money and dedicate it to my 8x10 projects and let the sensationalism alone.

The portraits look like they're made on 8X10 (in terms of DOF, at least) ! I guess that such a big camera as the one he claims to use would have huge focusing problems at such close distance focusing. Seems impossible to make portraits to me... then, I might be mistaken...

And the use of such huge negs (where did he get them manufactured, by the way ??) will pose huge problems with scanning them in order to print the huge plotter prints he displays. Did he scan them in a custom-made ultra large format scanner ? Or did he cut them in smaller pieces and made them fit in a usual large format scanner ? I don't know whether someone could find a scanner that will fit a 6foot large transparency or neg !!

Interesting. The camera shown at 1:07 in the video isn't nearly as large as the trailer cam (artist's rendering, vaporware until proven otherwise) and the lens-subject and lens-back of camera (if that's where the film plane is) distances make no sense for possible focal lengths. I don't think he's shooting over 1:1, and the images on the negs shown later in the video are larger than that.

Until proven otherwise, fantasy.

Re the fantasy, sorry, dream, that drives all this, I don't see the connection between straight-on head shots and culture. More marketing fluff. Wrinkled old faces with stubble and without context ...
