Message to B&H: Does this unit provide a guide number-aperture calculator or do I have to do the math???
I'm waiting for their answer. Maybe APUG can answer more quickly.
TIA.

I think it doesn't. The math is simple enough.

No guide calculator, and not as easy to calculate as a fixed output flash. The flash has a range of 8 stops and several zoom settings. I suppose they could have added a guide number on the display for the current setting, but really, almost no one would ever use it.

I have four of these flashes and while I love them, I definitely need my flash meter to get the best results with them.

I have four of them too and also use them with a flash meter with radio triggers as a very portable flash system.

If I have the Youngnuo I would use the flash meter too as I have 2 flash meters but I do think the math is easy even with the 8 stop variable power.

Nice shot! Lot of vivitars there!

Thanks Analoguey.

I am hoping the Yongnuo YN 560 IV will be my workhorse for the next few decades like my Vivitar 283 was for the last few.

Thanks to both who responded so quickly! B&H has yet to answer.

A flash meter is a hand-held light meter that can read the light from a flash. There are a several different kinds around, some dedicated that cannot read "normal" light, and some multipurpose that are able to read regular ambient light as well as flash. Some can trigger the flash using a cord or wireless trigger.
Lots of choices, depending on your specific needs.
