I finally managed to snag an 8x10 Deardorff at a "reasonable" price to replace my wobbly Korona.
I currently have a Gitzo 1340 tripod and a Bogen 410 geared head (the smaller one). The 410 has a little backlash (slop) in the movement and doesn't take full advantage of the wide base that the Gitzo has. The head only uses about half of the Gitzo's platform. I'm looking for something stable without breaking the bank or my back.
My questions are:
[1] Will a Ries A200 head work well on the Gitzo? It seems it might be a bit wider than the Gitzo platform.
[2] Is the Gitzo low-profile, 3-way head a better, but more expensive choice?
[3] What other options are out there in the sub $300 range that will hold the Deardorff nice and solid without breaking my back (thus ruling out the Majestic).
