I don't usually complain about the price of film - to me, the cost of film is relatively low compared to the amount of pleasure I get from film-based photography. But I couldn't help but notice that the price of Ilford HP5+ has gone up pretty significantly in the last several months. The last time I bought it I paid $8.95 for a roll of 36 exposure 35mm HP5+. I just looked today and the same roll is $10.99, up more than 20%.

I switched to HP5 after the price of Tri-X went through the roof a couple of years ago. Ironically, today a roll of Tri-X is down to $8.99, so it's become the more economical of the two films.

I admire Ilford's dedication to black and white film photography and have become a big fan of HP5+ since switching to it. I just hope that Ilford can keep it priced reasonably and doesn't start to lose market share to other film manufacturers like Kodak, who seem to have found a way to actually bring down the prices of their black and white film.

Tariffs.

As it happens, today is Blue Moon Camera's 15% discount Friday, and HP5+ is their choice this week, so you can buy a 35mm roll of it for $9.34 today: https://bluemooncamera.com/shop/search?keywords=ffhp5&in-stock=true

Currently, this is as good as prices get for Ilford films here in the USA. I just bought a box of it in 5x7.

The Blue Moon Camera deal is what made me realize the price of HP5+ had gone up - I initially scoffed at the sale price because it was higher than I'd paid for my last rolls of HP5+ elsewhere. But it turns out that their sale price is the lowest around at the moment.

Correction: it appears that B&H has matched those prices for today only, FWIW.

Yup, I just noticed that as well. And with B&H's free shipping it actually turns out that their shipped price per roll is less than Blue Moon's. B&H also has sale prices on other Ilford films today. I stocked up on FP4+ and HP5+.

You think that's bad, try Ilford paper prices.

The price of hp5 and txp is about to push me to try foma 400 in 4x5. The deal on a 100 pack from bh is $256.74 too my door. Still comes out to 64.18 per box of 25. Which is still more then what I paid for a box a few months ago at 61$

I really wish kodak would price their sheet film similar too the sq area of roll film.
