Attached a datasheet from Olympus, from 1968, for the 38mm enlarging lens made for their half frame system. Saying the enlarging lens should have the same focal length as the taking lens. The most common standard lens for the Olympus Pen F was a 38mm.
Olympus was a great company, but what they say about losing quality I can't back up with my own experience.
For a long time I printed half frame negatives using a 50mm Leitz lens in the Focomat Ic. Single shots up to 40x50cm (16x20), diptychs and triptychs up to 50x60cm (20x24). Without any deterioration.
Then I found this 38mm, which is a fine lens, but its prints are not different in terms of deterioation from the prints done with the 50mm lens.
Ofcourse, setting up is easier because one does not have to go as high up the column when using the proper focal length.
