Just joined, got myself a Yashica D. BTW, what kind of cable release can I use with it?

^^You will need an adapter they call sometimes "Leica nipple" to attach a standard cable release to the shutter button. Easy to find online.

My first MF camera was a Yashica D, and it made me fall in love with TLRs. Its main talents were of being there anytime I needed it, having cost very little, and being light to carry around. Eventually I sold it to fund a Mamiya C330, but I still missed the lightness of the Yashica, so I got myself a Rollei automat. Although the Tessar is a league above the Yashikor triplet, I still love my old pictures and would never look down on something that can make you fall in love.

+1 for the YashicaFlex C, one of my favorite cameras. Sharp where I want it, dreamy everywhere else.

I have a Rolleiflex 2.8 that I gotten from my father after he passed away. If I would have bought a TLR it would have been a Yashica.

My story is that somehow I got on our high school yearbook staff as photographer (am I dating myself if I say that was 1975?) because I was the only one who had an Instamatic, but the school had a Yashica 124G. Until the professional "advisor" photographer set me up with a monster strobe with the huge battery pack, I used flash bulbs with that camera and got amazing results. I wanted one for years but never got one. Flash forward 3 years ago, found one complete with all the accessories 100 miles from me in perfect condition. I need to CLA it and another D that I got last year and get busy!!

The few rolls I did put through it did come out as good as I remember though.......Yashica's do offer a tremendous value and are all most people will ever need......unless you have a bad case of GAS...

I love TLRs and started out shooting with two different Mamiyas. They were too heavy and clunky for me in most scenarios, so I sold my C-33 and got a Yashica Mat LM. I've had it for a little while now and have taken some amazing shots with it, it rarely disappoints me. I had flare issues, but I mostly resolved those by flocking the film chamber and picking up a lens hood. I have now upgraded to a Rolleicord and am enjoying that, so I'm selling the Yashica soon. However, they're great cameras optically and if it wasn't for the slightly flimsier mechanics, I would be more than glad to keep it.

My first (and only, for the moment) TLR is a Yashica A. In reality it's not mine, since i bought it as a present for my girlfriend, but i use it very often when we go photoshooting together.
I love it, it's amazing how, although it offers a very short range of times (1/25 to 1/300), you can get very good results in very different light conditions, even in interiors.
Now when we plan a trip and choose which cameras to take with us (this is the really important part in the preparation), we never left it home!

Sort of a late contribution to this thread, but I occasionally shoot a YashicaMat 124 along with my various 35mm stuff. I like the camera, it is well built and takes great images - even the built-in meter is accurate.

Have a couple of 124s, and a 635 that I bought new in 1964. Shot a couple of years of my high school yearbook with it. Finally had a CLA done a couple of years ago by Mark Hama. When he opened it up he found his name penciled inside; it was one he had assembled when he worked on the Yashica production line in the early 60s.
