I purchased this Yashica Mat a few weeks ago. It was in good physical condition and after some times cocking and firing the shutter (without film), seemed like it worked fine.

A problem occured today, after finishing the 10th frame. Once the shutter was cocked, it wouldn't fire. The shutter button can be fully pressed, but the lens apperture is still close (won't move).

I attach a few pics:
- The film winding crank is stuck (film counter shows 10 - 11)
- The shutter locking lever isn't aligned with L, so indeed it's unlocked
- The flash sync selector is on X.

I tried pressing the shutter button even even deeper with a shutter release cable, and nope it doesn't work. A friend suggested to check the mechanism around film winding crank, check what's is stuck and give a few drops of Zippo cleaner fluid.

Anyone ever encounter this problem?

The shutter may still be held up by the escapement. Access to the escapement for cleaning is outlined here:

I had the same happle with a yashicaD from ebay. Usually its just dirty or wet from oils. Your friends solution will probably work in short run along with very gentle rubbing with cotton swab to dry. Usually wont last as a fix But it will allow ya to finish roll.

best if you pull shutter and look at the mechanism. It probably needs a full clean or CLA. Just dropping solvent on the blades will only give a partial fix but speeds will probably be off. You can flush it and use watch greash on pivot an shoud be good to go. If it sticks look for old grease. also let it dry. Then dry somemore.
