Yashica shutter button fires just fine with pressed in, but it doesn't fire when using a cable release. Any ideas how to fix? The release cable also has a "Leica nipple" attachment for my Nikon F photomic but the outside of the yashica isn't threaded.

You should be able to thread the cable release directly into the shutter button without the adapter.

when shooting at 1/3osec. or slower shutter speeds or making B (bulb) exposures, it is advisable to mount the camera on a tripod and to use a cable release to prevent erratic movement of the camera during exposure. To mount the cable release, screw it into the cable Refease socket on the Shutter Release Button

Oh yes! Idk if I said that in the post but I have threaded it into place correctly and then it's not firing when depressing the plunger. It fires fine when pressed in manually, just not with the cable release attached.

Ditch the adapter, no sorry don't ditch it remove it and keep it then screw the cable directly into the end of the release.

I say don't throw it away because these are getting hard to find so you could sell it on

On earlier Yashica TLRs, there was a little cover ring around the release that unscrewed to reveal the outer threads for the Leica/Nikon F style cable release. On the later Mat 124G, the inner button is threaded and you don't need the thread adapter, so the outer threads may have been omitted. As BMbikerider said, the thread adapters are now hard to find, so don't lose it. You may just need to get another cable release that works with the Yashica.

I had to make mine work, it has the cloth covering, I took it carefully apart and shortened the cover, glued it back. Worked fine last time I used it. But now that I think about it, I also used the leica nipple after unscrewing the base, like said above.
