Yashica Ez-Matic Electronic

I finally found the electrical fault with my Yashica Ez-Matic Electronic (bad contact in the shutter switch) and got it working tonight. Unfortunately, I discovered that it does not like my 126 cartridges that are reloaded with 35mm film. And the Frugal Photographer just raised their prices on new 126 cartridges to $14.49 per cartridge. Oh, well, I guess I have me a shelf queen now....

Can you please explain?
I was thinking of getting this same model for this same purpose.
Curious what the hang-up might be.
