Yashica d setting shutter speed

Hi just a quick question. When you set your shutter speed on a yashica d can you go in between the numbers for example the shutter speed dial goes from 1/100 then skips to 1/250, can I for instance shoot at 1/200 by turning the dial halfway between the two numbers? Can I do the same with the f stop? The reason is I use the lightmeter app (because im broke) and it pairs the f stop with a shutter speed but some of the shutter speeds and f stops dont match and I have to guess sort of. Its hard to explain sorry. Thanks.

You can do it with f stops, not speeds. It will engage either one or the other speed.

Well, you can do that with the f/stop selector because the iris itself is continual, ie, it opens and closes smoothly, not by discrete clicks.

Shutter speeds, however, are controlled by a spring mechanism with discrete settings; if you set it between 2 speeds, it will give you 1 or the other speed, and you can't predict which one, ie if you set the selector between 1/250 and 1/500 seconds, you won't get a speed between the two like 1/375, you'll just get one or the other marked shutter speeds.

the BETAX shutters wollensak made a long time ago were like you were asking ... but they worked
off of a different type of mechanism ... most shutters have click stops.
