I recently purchased a Yashica D with Yashinon 1:2.8 viewing lens and a Yashinon 1:3.5 taking lens. Lenses looked clear of any scratches or fungus on the outside in the photos. Once I received the camera, I started playing with it and discovered that all mechanics worked smoothly (shutter, aperture, shutter speed, focus knob etc.). The camera is in excellent cosmetic condition. The strange thing though is that it cannot seem to focus and objects remain blurry. I took a closer look into the viewing lens and it seems there is something in the back (almost looked like fingerprints?) but I doubt this is the only reason for the blurriness. A CLA usually goes for above $110 to my knowledge, plus shipping etc and I am not ready to drop this kind of dough just yet. I already have a CLAd YahicaMat 124 as well as a working (although could use CLA) Mat 124G.I bought the D on a whim:smile:. Is it a camera worth keeping? Any suggestions, ideas of what might be happening to the focus? Is this something that can be easily fixed (cleaned) or do I need a professional CLA?

Sounds to me like something is amiss in the gearing between the focus knob and the stage holding the lenses. Does it move in and out when the focus knob is turned?

If you're a do it your selfer, you might find that it might be easy to fix or at least get a better look at the problem. Just remove the four screws that hold in the WLF and pull it out. Then carefully remove the mirror (without touching it too much) and you'll see the rear element of the viewing lens and you'll be able to clean it or remove whatever is causing the problem. While you're in there you'll be able to clean the bottom element of the focusing screen as well. Hope this helps!

Check to see if the focusing screen is in upside down.

I recently bought a Mamiya C330 and had the same problem. I called Keh and sure enough, it was. I don't know if that will be the case with your Yashica or not ......
