Hi,

I am looking for a particular type of etching knife (a long shot at best). I used to own one and really liked it - unfortunately it was lost in a move. I've tried some other brands (adams, etc), but they just have not worked for me.

I don't know the brand off hand but I'll do my best to describe it:

It had a relatively fat and long machined aluminum handle and the blade had a slim triangular cross-section (the broad portion of the blade was the working end of the knife while the thin apex was the unused top of the knife. Well...that was about as clear as mud.

I'll try to see if there is a photo of one in one of my books I have laying around to add to the post in order to clear things up a bit.

If you have one let me know

i used to have one when i had and used an adams retouching desk.
they seem to be hard to come by !

have you tried to contact the good folks at veronica cass ?
i know the retouching school might be out of business
but it seems there is still a portrait studio by that name in florida ...

good luck !!

That is it!

If anybody has a Homer English retouching knife that they would be willing to part with let me know - I'd be willing to pay a premium price for one in nice shape.

Thanks for the help on the photo Bill!

Hate to dig the knife in deeper or add fuel to demand for the unavailable... but this knife can be used for digital retouching!

I'd been given an LCD monitor with a stubborn mark across the face. I'd assumed it was a scratch so left it alone and put up with it, not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Well, thinking there's nothing to lose... I got out this etching knife and went over first a small discreet section of the monitor to get a feel for the texture...

Then I went to the gash mark and completely removed all traces of it from the monitor. Apparently the mark was a "skid mark" from the edge of something else plastic (like maybe a keyboard), and it came right off. The monitor surface is surprisingly "hard".
