I've just picked up an nikon f90x. I'm looking to mount a lens on it that covers something I don't yet have. So I'm looking for an AF ultra wide zoom 17-35 or 20-40. Third party is good, and given my budget (sub $200cnd), preferable even.

I'm in Canada, so you have to be willing to ship to Canada. Let me know if you have something sitting around not getting enough love.

A 19-35 Phoenix or Vivitar is nice, for $145 new.

Mine has some relatively minor complex distortion at the edges, only noticeable in architectural shots, but the glass is good. Operates fine, just a little plastiky but aren't they all? Light, too. I use mine for serious work.

It seems like i bought mine new fairly recently, but I guess it's been awhile.

I would avoid zooms unless you like your wideangles with distortion and/or mediocre edge performance and/or chromatic abberrations.

Why not a secondhand AI nikkor? For example i have the AI 20/4 and it's really compact and with good performance.

I've got nothing against primes, primarily shoot primes. And I realize that af on a wide angle isn't terribly important.

I like the idea of a walk about lens that gives me ultra wide and what I'm used to for street photography. Hence the zoom. When I was searching the bay, the price of ai primes was the same as third party ultra wide zooms .

I think for the category of lens you're looking for you'll have a better chance finding it on DPUG than here.

I have Vivitar Series 1 19mm - 35mm f3.5-4.5 as a extra after I bought a Nikkor ultrawide zoom. It's in rather nice condition and I haven't had issues with it. Drop me a offer as PM and let's see if I'll be shipping it to you.
