Hi Gang, looking for a controller for my 500 head. I think there are two types by not sure if they’re interchangeable.
Thanks

It’s the Blue Green version. As far as I know all 500 Ilford heads are like that. I also have a 400 ilfospeed with the magenta and yellow light. I read somewhere that Ilford went back to magenta and yellow with the 600 series. The blue green makes it hard to see what your doing. It may be important to know which head you have. Does it provide blue and green light, or is it the original magenta plus yellow head.
And is it sized for medium format or 4x5?
Thanks, I actually already have the RH controller…You can certainly get the RH Designs Ilford 500 controller off the shelf here https://rhdesigns.co.uk/product/analyser-500/
Thanks for the tip. I have a question, we’re you able to see well enough to dodge and burn in that blue/green light? I only ask because all I have is the RH analyzer controller which divides the exposure to have some green then some blue depending on grad. Never both together. Most exposures are made with mostly blue light that’s very hard to see, so it’s impossible to dodge or burn. Even if you could see to do it you would likely only effect certain parts of the multi layer emulsion. Both controllers will work with your system. - I prefer the later model but have happily used both.
You might want to contact Alan Bradford (alan.bradford@wanadoo.fr // +41 79 570 7422).
A couple of years ago he posted on this site saying that he had 8 complete MG500 systems.
If you are able to make contact with him and he still has equipment available, please post an update here.
Bests,
David.
The very, very first version of the Ilford 500 head also used magenta and yellow. I had oneIt’s the Blue Green version. As far as I know all 500 Ilford heads are like that. Interesting. I wonder if my RH Analyzer would control that particular version…….The very, very first version of the Ilford 500 head also used magenta and yellow. I had one![]()
