Want to Buy WTB: Clear 35mm acetate/film base.

Trying to find/source 100ft or more of clear film base with 35mm film sprocket holes.

If anyone knows where I can get this w/o bleaching old worthless bw film it would be much appreciated.

Does it have to be a continuous 100 feet?

I'm sure between everyone here we've mucked up enough 35mm rolls (and lost some to dead xtol) if you don't mind it in 36-shot lengths...

It does not necessarily need to be continuous but I find it unlikely I can find large quantities of cleared film without dozens of people sending me the output of their unexposed rolls

Plain bleaching would likely be the way to go for least hassle.
As I do not know any industrial use of the material you are looking for.

BUT then you will not yield clear Acetate base, but gelatinized base.
This may be beneficial or disadvantageous. Depending on what you have in mind.

Either/or would be fine. A side that could be easily coated, with some non-visual tack, would be ideal.

If you search on ebay for 35mm clear leader you'll find a couple of auctions right now (or keep searching over time, maybe a better deal will pop up.)

I have a pile of 100' rolls of Kodak SO-291 aka 2360 film, which in its current state is a weird translucent red. It's a "direct positive" film. You could simply fix and rinse it and have totally crystal clear film. This was cut down from a 2000 foot roll and had the occasional couple of foot length with massive scratches (came that way from Kodak!), so I gave up on using it as experimental still film because of that quality issue. If you're handling it in light as clear film you could more easily work around the scratched areas. I'd send you rolls for the cost of shipping. I can put 2 of them in a small flat rate box for whatever that is these days ($7-ish I think.) Or a whole bunch of them in a medium flat rate box. (If you're truly planning on using them just as film base I'd take them out of the bags and cans and keep those, just sending you the film on core.)

Yes, leader is going to be Estar-based. As is the SO-291 and 2360. If the OP needs acetate, you're going to have to fix and wash some normal B&W film, I think.

The 1000-foot rolls of clear leader on ebay right now for $105 look crystal clear. The old 3M leader for auction looks old and yellowed.

Yes. It would have a number like 2222 or 3222 if they made an Estar version

Just for reference, any film soaked in a diluted household bleach solution (Sodium Hypochlorite) will shed the gelatin emulsion, leaving a (clear) base.
